im not going to vote, and probably never will. why you ask? if you look at the electoral college system, your vote doesnt count at all. and didnt gore win the popular vote last election, but bush got the electoral votes? a very messed up system.

Well actually our system of government is based on a division of power
that resides first with the several states. And their power is derived from
the people. So it makes sense that one candidate could gain the popular
vote and lose the state votes. Kennedy won but Nixon got the popular
vote. I don't hear anyone saying Kennedy was a bad president
because of it.

but if you look at the same election and look at Florida you see how much individual votes do count. Clinton never got a majority of the popular vote in either election he won, but I didn't hear nearly as much complaining as with the 2000 election.

I don't know how to respond to that, except that I think you are being
very short sighted. I thought you had a point in your first post. The
system may be screwed up. But in order to change it, you have to
be a part of the process, or a wrench in the works. In other words
you have to involved (good or bad) to change things.

I would encourage you to think about joining a political party or a
revolutionary movement. But don't just sit on the sideline. That's
the worst thing you can do.

i really dont mind who becomes president, really i dont. as it stands right now, things can only get better, as this adminastration has bottomed out. so whoever comes into office next can only clean things up.

and if worse comes to worse, i have always wanted to move to england, so there is a back up plan.

Is that deficit harming you at all, do you have any less money, would you rather have high taxed and money taken out of your paycheck? I don't understand why you would want to vote for someone who is promising to raise taxes thus taking money out of your pocket.

Actually, Bush's tax plans are based on trickle down economy, meaning that
by giving tax cuts to the richer people, they'll have more money to spend
and to put into the economy, so that the middle class and poorer people
will be able to spend more, therefore, yay economy.
However(as stated by a woman who did an interview for a college that my
mom works for to transcribe these interviews), you can never be SURE that
the richer people are going to put money to the economy, because, as they
are rich, they don't need to buy anything necessarily. if Bush gave
tax cuts to the middle class, of course we're going to spend it, the majority
of people in the middle class need to buy things. if the middle class was
given more money, of course the majority is going to put it in the economy.
It's just a better idea that trickle down economics, which is what bush is doing.

And about Kerry's military services, what's wrong with going to fight a war
that you believe in, and then later, if you see that it is not a good war, and
you realize that the government is not doing the right thing, then protesting it?
I just don't think there's anything wrong with what he did.

GAH! NO! (quicksand is this thread. gawwwwwrrrrgle.)

What makes you think England will want you? They like people to
participate in their government too. Very Happy

There's one thing you can count on though. The rich are greedy.
So they will invest in money making ideas which in most
cases means job creation. And more jobs mean more lower class
people spending more money. Trickle down economics is a long term fix.
Money directly to the poor is a short term fix.

Whether those who get tax cuts invest their money or spend it, it helps the economy in the long run. Even if the money is put into the bank, the banking system is helped out. Do you not think that those who pay more into the tax funds should get more back?? Socialism isn't something I want to see America strive for.

Why has this thread turned into another political debate???

The point of this thread is that voting is rad and we should all do it(if you're old enough)!! I might disagree with who some of you plan on voting for, but the fact that you're involved and informed enough to go out and try and make a difference makes me respect each one of you SO MUCH. So can we save the debate for one of the many other threads and just use this one to be POSITIVE and remind everyone who can to get out there and VOTE!!! Also, for those of you who think you don't care about it right now... a lot happens in 4 years and I'd hate to see any of you regretting not voting 2-3 years down the road. So get informed and please vote!! It really does matter! Very Happy

the libertarian candidate is from texas.
make sure everyone considers a few "third party" options.

http://www.gp.org/
http://www.lp.org/
http://www.3rdparty.org/

our votes are gonna matter for at least a few more years.

maybe.

find out "where you stand"
http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz.html
and then do some research.

our votes count. big time. don't waste it. pay attention and make some difference if you feel inclined to do so. get involved. get your friends to vote. make sure everyone you know votes. everyone. it's THAT important. i don't care who you vote for. just vote. do it. do IT. DO IT.

I would vote libertarian if it there was a realistic chance that he could get elected, but since there's not, I have to vote for Bush cuz I don't want Kerry in office. Wink
