you know, i've been looking around on here a bit and i noticed that a few of you are quite obsessed with this band. and with good reason, they are great, i myself love them. but couldn't you spend your time doing something a little more productive then posting replies on a band's forum all day long? because with as many posts as some of you have placed this has got to be all you do. maybe you could read a book or something?

in fact here's some good ones you could check out....

-Orthodoxy-G. K. Chesterton
-Crime & Punishment-Fyodor Dostoevsky
-Ender's Game-Orson Scott Card
-I, Robot-Isaac Asimov

some suggestions for you from some of my favorite's.

please do something productive............thank you...

Just a few thoughts

maybe posting while studying or working is what people do.I know it's what I do,I work online all day and post while i'm working.I'm also old enough to decide whats productive for me.

I worked 48 hours this week. I've also read three books, drawn some comics, talked to numerous friends (many which I've made here) slept several hours and driven around town all while doing this in the background. This is no mere message board, nor does it dominate hardly any of my time. I find this to be a very worthy way of spending a little time every day. Anyway, just my thoughts.

Oh yeah, I read Ender's Game multiple times 13 years ago. Nice book. And welcome. Very Happy

if you like Ender's Game, try the sequels. Or the Ender's Shadow series.

I don't think that there is anything more productive than creating
relationships with real people. Which if you look close--you might see
that IS what this forum is about.

It's not really about Eisley. Eisley is just an excuse for people to
express their feelings and get input from other people.

Ah! you might say it's in a unreal way--over the evil internet,
isolated humans pounding on their keyboards with no face to face feedback.

Well there are a few defenses I could offer up but I'll just say this:
Books -which you offer up as a more productive use of time- are but
a one way form of communication. The forum at least talks back.

I invite you join in and hone your writing and your reading skills.
I am certain there are constructive things you have say that are
fascinating and worthwhile. Join us in meaningful conversation about
real life (and sometimes not so real [I reference Norbert the Gnome,
and numerous boyd ramblings, as well as other interesting fiction.])

And that's all I'll say. I say too much, I haven't said enough.

i have to appologize. i was kind of in a bad mood when I wrote that. Most of my frustration is from my younger brother who will be in sixth grade and is a very smart kid. in fact I wish i could have been half a good of a student as he is. but he wastes so much time on the internet; talking, playing video games and a million more things. not that a single one of these is bad, it's just that he wastes so much time doing it. he's ten years younger than me and I love him very much, and i just don't want him to be like me and skid his way through school, and then have to educate himself on his own (like I am trying to do) because he missed it all. (like i did.) So please except my apology. I really do think this forum is a good thing, I was just being mopy.

thank you

What a brother you are! I wish I had a brother ... wait I do.

He was a slacker and turned out to be a music minister in church no less.
Just give your brother some time. It'll all work out.
Welcome to the board. Very Happy

It's cool. It's good that you're concerned for your brother. Please take noe that you're pertty young, so don't be too hard on yourself. I was in a similar position of trying to play catch up. I'm 24 now and I'm doing pretty darn good for myself.

Anyway, stick around, this is a productive place. Wink

Wow. I must say, when I read the first post on this thread, I got pretty heated... I may not be posting as much as some of the other members but I'm here very often... While I'm floating in the middle of the Pacific ocean after a two week War games exhibition in Alaska against several other Surface Warfare ships. I'm a qualified Fire-Marshal, Fire-fighting team leader, Surface Contact Tracker, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Damage Control Training Team member and I manage a quarter of a million ship's budget just to name a few. So, productivity is no question just because of visiting frequency on this board. I'm an example of that.

But after reading the later post, you're cool with me, purephase. I personally think it's best to let people learn on their own. I'm a firm believer people should go they're own way. It makes the lessons learned that much more significant. I understand where you're coming from but It's like what a wiser man than myself once said " If you've never been there, you'll NEVER understand."

But anyway, like TheAntrider said. Welcome.

Keep on rockin'.
