It is not like myself to join a forum and it is very unlike myself to post text about a band but there is a first time for everything I presume. I was wondering without direction through the site and stumbled upon the "bios" and much to my surprise I found this quote, "I am not a 'lead' guitar player. I don't know scales..." I would just like to say to Chantelle that a "lead" guitarist is not made up by the scales and theory that he or she may know but the emotion within every single note. A great guitarist once told me that it is not the number of notes that are in a solo that matters but the fact that people know that the few notes that are in your solo came from your mind down your arm into your fingertips and that is what catches the ear of harmoniously minded individuals. I began playing lead guitar at the age of nine and now at the very life changing age of 20 I am understanding what was meant in that statement. There are two note within the chorus of "Sea King" that Chantelle gleamingly picks. Two notes that bend and twirl perfectly in the song. Two notes that hold the same validity as a mind blowing solo by the best guitarist. Note placement can't be taught, it only dwells within. well I imagine this post is growing tiresome so I will be on my way but Chantelle, scales and theory mean nothing when you are blessed with note placement which you undoubtedly have found within yourself. Everyone needs alittle Chantelle inspiration once and awhile. |

you know, i have Chauntelle to thank for getting me started on playing notes on guitar, even if i don't know what they are... for awhile there i was thinking that i'd have to take guitar lessons to be as awesome as i wanted to be, but i read somewhere, probably in her bio, that she just plays whatever sounds nice...and i thought "what an idea!" and so i tried it, and it couldn't be more fun. plus, i get to keep ALL THAT INDIE CRED i have as a christian homeschooled kid. cough. anyways, thanks Chauntelle. _________________ Saellys wrote: Thank God for Arielle all your kind, they're coming clean they shut their eyes their mess, their scene |

i couldnt agree more... i'm playing lead guitar in two bands right now... im not a GREAT lead player, and im not very fast... but i play fingerstyle and i play emotively... it gets the job done, and its me... and i like it... i used to worry because i cant play really fast (im left handed and play righty, i dont have alot of wrist coordination in my picking hand, as a result, so it does better for me to play fingerstyle... clever, eh? its so true that good leads are made of emotion... _________________ Now I never leave my zone, we're both alone, I'm going home... Truer words were never spoken...I was right up on the stage at the NY show in front of Chauntelle...she was so into every chord, putting her all into each and every note, and singing along with her eyes closed and her face racked with emotion...soo truly inspiring. But I told her after the show that she's such a great artist and creative spirit, I don't understand why she doesn't write music/lyrics...she told me that she tries but she's her own worst critic and she feels that her stuff doesn't compare to her sisters'...but I don't believe that...I'd love to hear a "Chauntelle original"... |

So much of my own philosophy as an almost-completely-untrained guitarist was reflected there. Great stuff. I'm gonna go play guitar now. _________________ INTELLECT AND ROMANCE OVER BRUTE FORCE AND CYNICISM Smokemonster |

She inspired me to pick my guitar up again, so that's really all I have to say. _________________

I like you. welcome to the forum. and tell chauntelle about her singing too, if you ever get the pleasure to do so. she is so skiddish about it. She sang with The Vanished at the new years tour, and I about crapped my pants with excitement. And agreed she is a great lead guitarist. _________________
