I recently played Laughing City for a group of people. (Many of them HUGE hip-hop fans) Let's just say the majority were "less than open-minded". And don't forget that David Glen Eisley(Who always comes up in my Eisley Amazon searches)!

Eisley has to hit you the right way. I couldn't imagine my first hearing of eisley any other way. some hip hop guys i know were down with Eisley. They thought it was good music, not necessarily something they would listen to on a regular basis, but really good stuff. They also noted the samplenicity (oh yah, i did it) of Eisley songs. People who appreciate music on a deeper level than just a song to play in the background usually like Eisley. The first time I heard Eisley, I was pleased, but not moved. That was a few listens later (which came in quick succession). I'm a delayed reaction type guy, especially when the thing I'm reacting to is so different. Reaction is about half and half. Some people don't react, others love them. My older brother had heard the EPs and didn't seem moved, but then we saw them live and he was stunned. We need to start an Eisley Fan Recruitment Center. Oh, man, wouldn't that be fun? Kidnapping people, throwing them in the back of a van with dark, tinted windows and forcing them to listen to the music. If they refuse, we scream, "Why don't you want to listen to Eisley?! Are you bitter about the unattainable success that you so dearly want?!" Then they'd have to listen, because we read their minds and figured out that they're bitter about that unattainable success they've got their eye on. We wouldn't even have to read their minds, either. Everybody wants unattainable success. What's that smell? Why, that's the sweet smell of my success that is unattainable to you. How did we attain such success? We listened to Eisley and liked them. Because we're good people. What have you ever attained? A sandwich? Attain a foot long sandwich if you listen to Eisley. Eisley makes things...attainable. (I'm beginning to think that attainable and its opposite are not real words.) my friend and my mom liked them...and my aunt and cousin didn't, at all. i've not had a chance to play them for anyone else yet. my cousin and aunt dislike female vocalists... and i don't really know why. the first song i heard was Over the Mountains We Go, and i thought that the girls had absolutely beautiful voices, but that it was kinda weird.. however, the song got stuck in my head, i found the Laughing City EP at a christian book/music store, bought it, and since then i've been a fan. incidentally, i don't think it's a weird song anymore.  _________________ Saellys wrote: Thank God for Arielle all your kind, they're coming clean they shut their eyes their mess, their scene |

i took two of my friends to the ausin show, and they really liked eisley. before the show, they were pretty unsure and didn't really know what to expect, but once eisley walked on stage, it became evident to them that eisley was one sweet band. tight tight |

interesting thread. i like it. also discouraging sorta. but maybe it's good... doubtful that they'll "blow up", which might not be good. Everytime people say, "oh, they're gonna be huge...", I'm like..."meh, we'll see... I'm blind to that revelation...I dunno... slow growth maybe; not some smash thing". I think there's a good possibility of them "blowing up," in a way at least like Radiohead has -- not popular per se, but respected by pretty much every artistically-minded musician or serious (not casual) music fan that's heard them. I like the EPs a ton, but from the live clips I've heard I think the full-length is going to blow them out of the water. |
