For the longest time when I had first begun listening to Eisley, I couldn't tell the difference between Sherri and Stacy's voices (on the first couple songs I heard I really thought it was just one singer doing overdubbed harmonies). Now, after careful study, I think I've found some keys to tell the difference:

1. Stacy's voice is deeper than Sherri's -- not that they have different ranges necessarily, but (in a sound guy's mind like mine) they could be singing the same note but Stacy's voice would have slightly more bass in it. Kind of like Paul McCartney's compared to John Lennon's.

2. Sherri modulates more than Stacy -- for example, when they hold out the word "I", Stacy would sing something like "aaaaii" and Sherri's would sound more like "uaaaii." It also tends to make her sound like she has an almost British accent sometimes. (Which is rad -- far radder than the deep south country-western accent she could just as easily have, at least. Rolling Eyes) She seems to use more vibrato also, although neither of them do it that obviously.

3. When in doubt, ask yourself whether the part in question sounds more like the first or second verse of I Wasn't Prepared. First is Sherri, second is Stacy. Wink

Most long-time listeners can tell the difference, but for noobs it can be awfully confusing. By the way, anyone who's heard Chauntelle sing (Boyd, Kim, band members, close friends?), what does her voice sound like in comparison to her sisters'?

chauntelle sings in a most beautiful way, without words, she merely mouths them, as if they are secret or special to anyone listening.

Chauntelles voice is pretty good actually. Check out Soap by The Vanished. She sings on that. Her voice is somewhat mellower than her sisters but I still think its good.

I agree with you on that it wasnt until I watched a couple of boyd's QT files to figure that out.

I'd say Stacy's voice is a bit more smooth and robust....a little "rounder" perhaps (kind of the bassyness y'all are talking about, I guess). Sherri obviously has the higher range and she swoops into her notes a bit more.

Overall it is best when they are both singing, though.

Chauntelle has a very interesting voice. Very pretty.
She just lacks confidence to use it, and get it in shape Sad

What would really freak all of you out, is to hear Christie's voice.
The youngest sister, not in the band.
Her voice is a mixture of mine, Sherri, Stacy, and Chauntelle's!
(and of course, her own)

She sounds a lot like the girl singer on ELF.
