I thought I'd be so bold as to create a thread where brand new fans can describe their Eisley experiences--how they discovered the band, times they've seen Eisley live, and suchlike. If this has been done before, just point me in the direction of that thread, and I'll abandon this one. My own Eisley experience: I've been a Coldplay fan for just over a year, and I try to keep up with their tour dates and details. Over the summer I came very close to seeing the UIC show in Chicago, but unfortunately my parents' trip didn't overlap (and I had no money besides). But I caught Eisley's name in the tour information, and it stuck with me over the past few months, until I picked up a copy of Blender (because Thom was on the cover, of course) and happened across the Eisley story inside. I was intrigued by the fact that all the band members were under the age of 21, and the word "hummus" also caught my eye. (Mmm, hummus...) Last week I was in the mood for some new tunes, and decided that I should try to find Laughing City. So for the last few days, I've driven all over my relatively small hometown, checking every snooty independent record store, and every snooty national CD chain, and every bookstore that also happens to sell music, for a copy of Laughing City. And today I finally found it, in the ever-so-eclectic CD section of Borders. It was the last copy, and I was thrilled. Haven't stopped listening to it all day. I'm impressed with the website. (This board gives it a real sense of community--I love being able to address my correspondence to the people behind the music. And the tour journals are spiffy, too.) I'm impressed with the music. I'm impressed with the band's philosophy, and I think it's safe to say I'm now a fan. If Eisley ever comes to Missouri, I'm there. So that's it for me. Send in the stories! _________________ INTELLECT AND ROMANCE OVER BRUTE FORCE AND CYNICISM Smokemonster |

That would be kinda cool. Anyway, I became an Eisley fan about 2 months ago. Just like you, I've been a Coldplay fan for a while and I heard about Eisley on their website. I had also read that Rolling Stone article about them at SXSW when I was doing some research for a quiz bowl tournament. I saw the EP at a music store once, but passed it up for the "Don't Panic" single 'cos I'm like obsessed with b-sides and I'm collecting CP singles (I'm kinda wishing I got Eisley too, but I didn't have enough money). When my sister went to the same store a week later, I asked her to pick up Laughing City since I was going to be on bus for 40 hr. to go on a trip w/ my youth group and wanted a little more variety when listening to music than the Beatles and CP. Also my friend's musical tastes are more TRL oriented since they all have all of this GC and 50cent stuff that I'm not really into, so I really wasn't about to borrow any of their cds. Anyway, when I got the cd, I also couldn't stop listening. They just have this incredible and unique sound that I can't get enough of. I haven't seen them live yet, but hopefully I'll be able to see them when they stop by H-town. I heard they were brilliant live, so I'm looking forward to it. |

This is pretty much the same thing I put in the "Newbies introduce yourself here" thingy, but I guess this is cool. I saw Coldplay in Cleveland on June 10 in Cleveland. I even killed some time at the Rock and Roll Fall of Fame before the concert started, and caught sight of a group of girls, one being a very tall girl walking out of the Hall of Fame while me and Gameboybob were looking for a parking space. Later that night at the show when Eisley took the stage, I still didn't know who they were but Bob pointed out that the really tall girl we saw earlier was playing the drums. The line he gave was something like "Dude, it's that tall chick, and she's playing drums!" Then we realized that it was a guy, sorry Weston. Anyhoo, the show was great, I loved the girl's voices and when I got home from the show, I downloaded whatever songs I could find. I've been a fan since. And yeah, Coldplay was amazing too. _________________ I think that it's brainless to assume that making changes to your window's view will give a new perspective.

Really cool idea for a thread. Nobody ever did exactly this. It's so amazing getting to hear the behind the scene stories...like in Cleveland. That's so funny. Gosh, can't wait for these new songs to get baked in the studio oven and get out there. I love this new material. The songs are so addictive...so soulful...so moving. Anyway. thanks for posting. _________________ EisleyWebGuy "The industrialists never saw the fruit of their own labor - Post Moderism, which I now proclaim as dead. Well it all started on a sunny day June 9th in the wonderful city of Chicago. I guess it was a monday, My girlfriend at the time spent all day shopping and wasting our time downtown, when we finally got hold of my friend who were going to meet us there, we finally got there around like 5 30 ish, or so, I know it was an hour before the doors opened, and we had floor spots so we needed to get as close as possible. You see I had been skeptical of coldplay for over a year but after the grammy performance I needed to see them. a month or so later a friend of mine and I saw them in Indianapolis. We got screwed by scalpers and our seats sucked, so we vowed to see them again soon. My girlfriend was also a huge Coldplay fan so we got through Ebay 4 tickets for genereal admission floor for the UIC show. Anyways the security sucke dand we were tired and bummed out and the showed was set to start almost a half an hour after we thought it would. In this time we learned of the opening acts and we were like "Who are this jokers." Anyways we were like 3 people back dead center. We noticed before this band named Eisley a guy coming out and taking pictures so we had to act crazy. Haha, who knew it was Boyd. Anyways Eisley came out and being the jerk that I am I yelled Avril, because I am usually very skeptical of "girl groups" no offense guys in the band. But as soon ad the firs song was done I was hooked and enjoyed the rest of the set. They announced they were signing autograph and I really wanted to meet the band but my spot was too awesome. Anyways it was painful sitting through that sexton guy but Coldplay was worth it... After the show luckily there was some girl handing out Eisley stickers and I kept it and visited the site and now here I am, hooked. So anyways that is my story. I really want to see them again I just dont think I would pay to see only a short set then have to see that band they are opening for, Brand new or whatever they are called. Anyways, good work Eisley, cheers. oh yeah if you need a good Indiana gig I could set something up maybe. Peace and Love Riley |

The first time I saw Eisley at Gypsy Tea Room, May something-th.... It was all-rockin', and at the end I met Chauntelle. I said hi. I wish I would've struck up a conversation, but that was the first time I'd ever heard Eisley, so I didn't know of what to say.... _________________ If the end of the world has proper noodles I'll probably be okay with it. |

I met Eisley when they performed at my birthday party concert back in August of 2002. My band took the stage before Eisley did and we played in our boxers and socks. I remember looking over at Eisley and seeing the looks of disgust/confusion. I also saw thought bubbles rise over Sherri's head saying "WHY ARE WE HERE?" Anyway, Eisley's performance was mauled due to very untimely sound problems and we of course had them back 6 months later. Very cool. Of course I'm a fan of the music, but I'm also a fan of the people of the band. Very nice and very genuine and VERY shy. _________________ Hello my name is CHRIS and... |

I heard about Eisley during a trip. I was attempting a canoe trip from the lower tip of Australia to Antartica. About somewhere in the middle, a whale with circular grooves in his back swam by. A pelican was perched on the whale's back, rotating her beak around and around and around in slightly decreasing circular rotations. Yea, it was just like a record player.. the sound was amazing; pelican beak on whale blubber is best for analogue sounds. I heard ep2 that day.. in it's entirety, though I had to struggle against the seas to keep within hearing distance of the whale. [/img]
a photograph.. the water was a bit choppy. _________________ "Commit to the Lord whatever you do and your plans will succeed." prov 16:3 |

Much earlier in the year (april-ish) the Dallas Observer did this huge cover story on Eisley. I read it and was intrigued about the band. Unfortunately, mp3s were near impossible to come by (and I didn't know the band's site URL at the time), so I just stored the name in my memory until Laughing City came out. When it was released in May, I tried to hear some song clips on online CD/merch places, but there were none to speak of (it's worth noting that I never buy CDs without hearing at least a few tracks). So I tried to search for it in stores. No luck. Flash forward to last month. Being bored with my CDs and 106.7 KDL (the local dance station), I flipped on the Edge (something I rarely do these days). About 10 minutes later "Telescope Eyes" came on, and needless to say my mind was blown. Thankfully, I was going to go to Grapevine Mills (that huge mall on the north end of DFW Airport) later that day, so while I was there I walked to Virgin and picked it up. If I remember correctly, I think I listened to the EP about 3 times a day up until recently when my backpack (which had my CD player in it) was stolen. Oddly enough, when it was recovered, my TI-83 calculator was stolen, but my CD player wasn't (needless to say I was quite pleased to find out the EP was still there). And that's my story. _________________ Coprophiliacs make sh*tty lovers. Flickr Transvaal IV - Myspace : Virb Deep Thoughts About Shallow Subjects |

I first saw Eisley at The Door in Ft.Worth on Saturday, September 8th, 2001. I remember seeing a little girl (Christie) holding another little girl (Kayla), while the band jammed onstage. I was standing next to the lead singer of Spin490 (now Flying Machine). I just looked at him in shock and we both agreed that "They are good." Jessie was at the table so she was the only person I actually talked to, but I went straight from the concert and emailed Boyd. I drew a picture of a fish with an eye for his body and wrote "Moss Eisley" on it and emailed it to them. Ha ha ha!!! It was a dumb drawing I guess, but I got excited. I loved their art as much as their music. Boyd and I got to talking and we have been friends ever since. I love the DuPrees. Jon wasn't playing bass with them at that time, but when he came along I knew that life just got better for Eisley! I love that story. _________________ "Love is all you need." -John Lennon "Love is all you've got." -My brother Bill My Xangaaaaa...(Ricardo Mantaban) http://www.xanga.com/Danelectro |

That's hilarious Riley... I remember the scream, "hey avril"... but she gets that a lot, honestly. Whatever, it's funny. Anyway, yeah, I know some of you guys might not like Brand New. We'll see what happens. Maybe another time... the new ep will be smashing. gotta go to sleep. Up on this seattle roof again but losing brainwaves as fast as I'm sucking in some sap's highspeed from his very healthy wireless transmission. bd _________________ EisleyWebGuy "The industrialists never saw the fruit of their own labor - Post Moderism, which I now proclaim as dead.
