I was here typing on this computer and I had the TV on and suddenly I heard Telescope Eyes playing on TV and I rushed out and it said something about Eisley was going to be on Comcast TV, but I didn't quite get the details. Anybody know what that was? _________________ Don't you let them tell you you're an ugly child. They are blind to the beauty that lies within |

Eisley were just on my street! its snowing. first, i wrote 'eisley' on the back window of our car. then i thought...wow...virgin snow on the pavement...so i wrote it again on the pavement. then i thought...hey....the road is bigger.....so i wrote it on the road! it stretches all the way across the road, and nearly 2 houses long i think. then i saw some more fresh snow, and wrote 'hello mr. pine' on both sides of the road but not very big, maybe......a pavement width? the eisley on my road has nearly gone....(i can see it from my room) |

was* ... i'm pretty sure a band, although composed of multiple people, is a singular object. _________________ Facebook & Twitter & Blog(ish)-type thing |

JD I wasn't asking, it was a rhetorical question, kinda. Like, I was just joining in with a little bit of uncertainty that's like ... I can't explain it. Let's pretend it made sense. |

Depends on whether you want to emphasize Eisley as a single unit or as individuals that make up a group. (i.e. "His favorite band was the Beatles" vs. "His favorite musicians were the Beatles." Of course, "Beatles" is plural so it allows for more flexibility... but nothing says that "Eisley" can't be used plurally also.) Besides, I thought you were supposed to be good at math, not English...? |

Besides, I thought you were supposed to be good at math, not English...? No, you're emphasizing the wrong noun. Band is singular, and musicians are plural, and that's how that example works. A band is a singular entity, though, unless you're talking about the members in particular (which is obviously plural, because you're adding a plural noun into the situation). It's like America. America is made up of people. But you don't say "America are my favorite country," any more than you would say "America are my favorite band." Whether or not anybody would ever say "America is my favorite band" either is beside the point. Not a great band. The point is, singular nouns are singular nouns; even if the noun is explaining a group, it is to be referred to as the plurality (or otherwise) of the word itself. Eisley was on TV. The Pixies were a good band. _________________ Scriptozoology, a screenwriting blog .. Facebook |

Perhaps it can be more easily understood like this: Each Beatle was a Beatle unto himself and together they were many Beatles; whereas the members of Eisley are not themselves individual Eisleys.
