I'm starting to get really worried. I mean, when you're city cant have any shelters because its too close to the coast, thats pretty bad.
I'm leaving at about 6 or 7pm to stay with my aunt. My moms in Florida, off all places Rolling Eyes leaving me here alone with 5 dogs. It's gonna be juust dandy.
And Austin City Limits is looking pretty grim too Crying or Very sad....

one bit of hope is it's very hard for a hurricane to maintain cat5 status. it will most likey drop back down but it could go right back up too. From what i understand, the stronger the storm is the less stable it is.

do yall think this should be moved to general?

i dunno but one thing is for sure...

The 4th worst storm ever discovered by man is heading straight for our
home state... 100 miles of Gulf coast devastation is almost a given.

Our families from Houston are already evacuating. (Garrons family -
headed north already. stuck in traffic.)

Galveston has a seawall, but.. it's still, in 1900, the city was pummeled...
6000 died. Little known fact - Houston is below sea level. Flooding followed
by Tornados are absolutes. I've been through all of that... I paddled down
my street in a life raft in the 70's. And later, was it Alica? or - Andrew? in
the early 80's, when Chauntelle was a baby, endured a tornado that snapped
3' diameter trees like they were toothpics. I still worry every time the sky
turns green...

As for the ACL fest... it's still a go at this point. They're watching it closely.
We'll see what happens. Texans are rugged individualists... ha ha...

Rita. That monster is about the width of Texas now. I've got some family in Houston as well. No word from them yet. In the words of Cosmo Kramer... "Mother nature is a mad scientist."

it was alicia back in 83. i remember riding it out at my aunt's house and i remember the grayish purple of the sky when we finally did get back to our house.

my mom left for college station today and my bro and family went to austin. so all i can do here in dallas is worry.

good luck to all the rest of you south texans!! stay safe!!

ah. i live in kansas. when i was little, we watched some movie about weather in the 2nd grade, and ever since then i would cry every time it stormed thinking whas going to be a tornado. im over that stage of my life. i actually love storms.. just not when i can see a wall cloud out my window, and when the power goes out and we stuck in the basement w/. my brother playing drums. sooo annoying. but, so far there hasn't been one yet. but wall clouds are sooo scary looking.

bret said the hurricane would hit his town too. and im kinda worried, but he siad it should only be a category 1 by the time it hits. i hope.

i hate to say "i hope it goes" ANYWHERE, because anywhere, there's going to be some amount of people, but I just pray it won't be as bad at Katrina.

And I never even THOUGHT about ACL. What a dang coincidence. What are the odds.

I'm glad I didn't freak out about not getting to go.

But still, for you guys and Eisley and the lives of a bunch of people, I hope it doesn't come to that.

crap we're stuck in houston. i wanna leave but my parents don't think it would be a good idea because we'd just get stuck in traffic. i don't wanna stay.

but-they say traffic is so backed up that it is pointless to leave. i don't know if its true.
