Im not a big fan of making myself stupider. Thats why I dont drink or do drugs. I also try to prevent head banging if at all possible.

Also it is against the law. I guess im someone who likes to follow the rules.

No, I don't use pot. Neither should you. The world may become quite funny for short bursts, but the rest of it is all bad. Loss of ambition, loss of interest in other things besides getting high, grades suffer, relationships with people who don't get stoned with you suffer. And your stoner friends are just that, stoner friends. After some time passes, people you used to have great times with will become people you get high with and nothing else. And it won't be much fun, but you will keep on doing it anyway. Health effects are mostly all bad (unless you have glaucoma or a few other debilitating diseases which could possibly benefit). And it is expensive (between the cost of the pot, all the food you eat, the legal problems you may have). I don't think it is much worse than alcohol, but neither will benefit you and both will put you at risk of health problems, legal problems, etc... In case you wondered, I smoked some pot in college (about 1989 was the last time) and am a recovering alcoholic (almost 3 years sober). Don't go down that road. My grades in college suffered terribly. I managed to get through, but I could have done much better. Several stoner "friends" did not graduate, and they had great potential before they started smoking pot. The fun doesn't last. And if you are joking, good. But I'm sure someone who gets high or drinks will read this and hopefully think twice. And no, I'm not some zealot who thinks nobody should have any alcohol. It is a problem for many people at some point in their lives though, if they admit it to themselves or not. Better not to touch that either, at least until you are of legal age. And know that if you cannot limit yourself to 2 alcoholic drinks when you started out the night fully intending to limit yourself to 2 alcoholic drinks, then you probably have a problem with it and should think hard about quitting.

Every single person I know who smokes gets annoyed when people say that second statement. No-one has the right to tell them what they or shouldn't do! personal choice!

in my experience, no. The older you get, the more they respect your choice to not get stoned.

I'll second that! Just like gig buddies - you get on with them a huge amount because you share one band in common. not enough to have a friendship on.

I did smoke pot... about 2 years ago. I got bored. I knew there was more to life than sitting in Princess Street Gardens smoking the stuff, before going out to town. now that i have left those people pbehind me, I'm starting to socialise - and that's the key word - much more and better. getting to know people in their natural habitats, as opposed to how the peers make them.

True enough, everyone makes their own decisions in life. And I can recall laughing at people who thought they knew what was best for me back in the day (the cracked egg, brain on drugs commercial, or Nancy Reagan's "Just Say No" campaign come to mind). But I hope someone reads my statements and thinks twice about starting or continuing that choice. If not, so be it.

I don't care what people do. If that's what you're into then enjoy it - if you know that you're not hurting anybody around you or yourself then I say enjoy what you like and don't let others tell you otherwise.
I don't do it (i've tried a dozen times since I was 16 probably, never has any affect on me so I've given up on it for good). The one thing that irritates me about people who do smoke pot (this actually goes for a lot of other things actually) is when people make a lifestyle out of it. The "stoner" lifestyle is a joke to me. Everybody has their "thing". Every does pot, or drinks, has sex, has indie music taste, makes their own clothes, plays in a band, is gay, does coke, is vegan, gets tattoos, is very religious - everybody has a thing. It's when you take that thing, then turn it into a lifestyle and wear it like a fashion, as if it IS you, that I really get irritated. People become cliches, stereotypes, and homogenized that way. Some of my best friends aren't just social pot smokers now, they are "stoners" and to me that is a sad thing. They don't just do it and live their lives like other people, they have actually centered their lives around it. The same goes for some of my other friends and religion, sexual preference, or other drugs. Just do your own thing, but don't let that thing BECOME you.

you know, Bzdnika, there are plenty of KIDS in here. I'm sure their parents wouldn't like some brainless stoner to introduce them to drugs.
And I'm sure that anyone with the slightest drop of intelligence wouldn't be proud of smoking pot.

I did in high school but havent in 3 years. Many of my friends from those old days are still dropping 50 bucks a week on grade and doing basicly everything high (work, school, etc) I guess its cool since they all have jobs and some are in college but still the one thing thats consistantly on there mind is getting a chance to smoke. I don't really hang out with them anymore because all they really like to do is party. I know some social smokers and I'm fine with that. I'm with Robbie on this one, it's when someone makes it "their thing" when I'm not cool with it. But yeah pot made me pretty damn antisocial and lazy. Not for me.

Robbie's right.

Do your thing, and no more. Control the thing, don't be controlled by it.

I've never really understood social smokers. I mean, why smoke for the occasion? why not just not smoke at all? to me, that suggests a weaker mind than someone who does not smoke at all.

Same. And the smell of alchohol makes me sick, so I don't really drink either.

I'm glad that some of you got the point that I was trying to make. Wearing your food/drug/sexual/belief/clothing/music preferences as a fashion and total encompassment of your personality is very irritating.

BUT...

What I find more irritating is the complete biting condescension that people throw when they don't agree with somebody else's "thing". You could just disagree, you could state a logical or personal belief indicating why you don't indulge, but your sour remarks of condescension towards people that do these things is more irritating than the things that they do. Just disagree, don't be poor about it.

Coffee, television, religion, sweets, bad relationships... these are all things that people could be condescending towards you about if they chose to. All can be damaging behaviors. Just because it is an imbibed substance that you're not into doesn't give you license to be a jerk to them. Some of the smartest, most intellectually creative and profound people in history have been alcoholics, adulterers, and drug addicts. Does that make it something you have to agree with? No. But you can accept it just the same. A person's preference for substances and behavior isn't always an indicator of their morality or intelligence.

When I was around 18 years old I held some of those beliefs. I believed that people who drank alcohol, smoked cigarettes, and believed in god were ignorant and misguided. Not wholeheartedly of course, but in some angsty teenage way I was rebelling againt these socially accepted norms. How many friends, how much fun, how many relationships and experiences would I have lost out on if I chose to not be accepting of other people's behavior? LOTS.

So Bzdnika, to answer your question... No, I don't smoke pot. I don't condone it either, but I don't condemn you or think less of you for it. The end.
