I had a friend who lived just up a dirt road from an Amish community. They used to come over to her house and visit, but only so they could watch TV and get my friend's family to take them to Wal-Mart. It was pretty funny. I wanted to say, "That's cheating!"

And once we went to the little store they ran at the Amish property and there was a sewing accessory on a display with a big label that proclaimed "Wonder of Technology!" and I started laughing uncontrollably.

Is there a difference between Menonite and Amish? That could determine if they were "cheating".

In third grade, I wanted more than anything to be an Amish kid.

I'd really rather not go into that story right now.

That song was one of my first radio experiences.

Well, four years ago I used to live in a Pennsylvania in a charming small town where both Menonites and Amish people would pass through to come to the store. I would see Menonites dress a little more laxly than the Amish and some of the Menonites had cars. I just came up with the belief that even though the Menonites seem to still live more backwards than us, they're still a little more forward than the Amish. The Menonites just seemed as if they were complacent on what they were allowed to use technology wise and what they weren't. I really can't tell you what the difference is... that's just what I saw when I lived in Mifflinburg and even then I can't remember much since I was a "kid" then and I really didn't care much about Menonites and Amish since I was too busy playing soccer.

We're all crazy Menonites
Living in an Amish Paradise

If Caley's viewpoint is true, then Weird Al should do his research!

It makes me sad thinking a little Amish kid would be jealous of the rest of the world.

I find it ironic that a lot of amish people live in Intercourse, Pennsylvania. And it's right down the road from Virginville. Very Happy

I bought root beer from some amish people once. It wasn't good. Embarassed

They're often raised with the beliefs of the Amish church, but that still does not preclude them from using electronics at all. For an Amish child to own a Game Boy would not be unheard of. Amish children often go to non-Amish friends' houses to watch television. Being raised Amish and being bound by the rules of the church are quite different things.

Haha, but their furniture is awfully nice! They're wonderful craftsmen when it comes to oak.
