If macs and PCs were hanging on a branch of a cliff and you could only save one, which would it be?
Mac: I must save the mac! I need to look trendy while sipping my 4 dollar starbucks whilst leeching wi-fi!

i like both.

me too, erin! yay! i currently have a pc. i'd possibly like a mac next time but i'll probably buy a pc 'cause they're cheaper and will still do everything i need.

yeah. in the end, i'm not incredibly picky, but i do try to be frugal. besides, the computer i'm using right now is the one i got from work, and if they're gonna give (well, "loan" technically, for "school use" technically) me a computer, i'm not gonna be picky about which kind. and the tech person at my school hates macs.

i had an ibook once. i do like them a lot.

it really depends on the purpose of the computer. If I'm going to be doing some heavy graphical or musical editing, then a mac can do exactly what I want pretty much right out of the box. PCs can do it to, but things aren't as user friendly. PCs can't be beat when used in a business setting. The ease with which they can network in almost any environment is amazing. At home, if all you'll really be doing is surfing the web and checking email, then there really is no reason to spring the extra cash to get a mac.

all that said...I do run Linux on my main laptop at home, Windows on my other laptop and desktop because my Wife freaks when she works on a Linux box.

and to the OP...the difference these days is almost purely software...ever since Apple switched to Intel chips, the hardware differences are negligible.
