If You're Wondering is the only one that makes me sad. I think it's because of the sleepy-time music box feel I get from it. I don't know why but it makes me miss my parents or friends...someone. |

Take Marvelous Things, for instance. Sure, its got some surreal lyrics and stuff, It seems to me, its about death and satan. The morning light, aka lucifer (light bearer). "keep us here safely" = trapped in hell for eternity. I'm kinda getting a Paradise Lost feel from it. The last verse is about the last minutes on earth before dying. Memories also makes me kinda weepy too. Plenty of Paper gets a apocalyptic feel, too. seriously dude, maybe its just your interpretations of the songs that are depressing. try not to interpret things as ...being stuck in hell. My favorite is the escaping song...the piano solo..very sad. But I like bittersweet "happy-sad" kind of music. |

This was a while ago, so me memory is sketchy, but I think i said the bright lights could indicated God. crazy! Regarding song lyrics, I've cried a few times, mostly to worship music, but it's almost always because God was telling me somethin' through the track. He used an Embrace track once... As for the music, sometimes music is just so there. so zaney. Dear Blackened Crown~ I think everyone of us here can think of certain songs that inevitably make us feel overwhelmed, sad, contempletive. The first time I heard Combinations when I saw Eisley in Chicago, I was moved to tears. Yes there are some darkly haunting elements of their music, perhaps this is what I adore most about their abilities, to be able to connect with the listener beyond lyric, beyond sound, but to the soul. To be able to shapeshift, and actually meld itself to reflect our inner state of being. This doesnt suprise me, as they are truly a blessed group in so very many ways. I can tell you, I tend to be drawn to rather emotionally driven songs myself. Gary Jules "Mad World" really makes me sad, but its really beautiful, or Sinead O'Connors "Jealous" a little known song, but a song that has really left its mark on me, or Josh Groban's "Let me Fall" beautifully sung able to be translated in so many ways. I think what I am trying to tell you dear friend, is that, this is the power and beauty of the gift of music. Its ability to affect us in ways we didn't quite expect it would. Music goes beyond logic, and becomes the soundtrack of the journey we are on in this beautiful mess we call life. Perhaps down the road, this album will feel the opposite to you, instead of making you feel sad, the elements of its beauty, its uplifting compositions and melodic intricacies, will make you feel happy. To me it's basically about someone having nightmares, being comforted and then the morning comes, told in a beautiful way. Now Memories can be a sad song, but the man and woman almost seem to be representing seasons maybe. One Day I Slowly Floated Away is sad. Many Funerals and Invasion are sad. I thought Combinations and If You're Wondering were love songs. They have a longing, tender sound to them but didn't strike me as sad, at least not in a suicidal sense. My favorite song is Escaping Song, the music is upbeat but the lyrics "These beautiful moments we shared together all end now" always choke me up a bit. Blackened Crown and Sleepy Head are dark too. But yeah, all of Eisley's song have some touch of haunting melancholy to them. That's a huge part of their appeal. |

Eisley can make me feel depressed sometimes...not sure why. The only other band that has really made me sob my heart out is The Normals. Their lyrics are so brutally, beautifully, kick-in-the-gut honest. Right now, I'm listening to Telescope Eyes. (and stemming from the topic of Eisley ripping off NIN) it seems like a song Reznor would do, as in the topic I said I could see them covering Hurt, to me, Telescope Eyes is on par with Hurt in terms of sadness, insanity, and depression. It even sounds a bit industrial too. |

Now "Hurt", that is a depressing song for depression's sake. I don't think Telescope Eyes is on par with that but it's cool you think so. _________________

the original version of TE is very depressing yes. The room noises version...well to say it nicely, not as emotional and was a interesting choice as first single for a band that I don't think really wanted to embrace the song anymore. |

It even sounds a bit industrial too. Telescope Eyes is about rejection and such, I thought. And I thought Hurt was a lament after years of drug abuse, and examining the shambles of one's life. You should just listen to "Brightly Wound." Although you'd probably interepret it as a serial killer taking kids into the forrest "I shall never grow up". Kinda like "Possum Kingdom" by Toadies heh. This guy needs a dose of "Marsh King's Daughter" stat! _________________
