Is Grave of the Fireflies Ghibli Studios? I know it's not a Miyazaki film.

My list:

Shows:
Trigun
Cowboy Bebop
LAIN
Escaflowne
Record of Lodoss War
Evangelion
Blue Gender
.hack//SIGN (DUSK sucks)
.hack//LIMINALITY
Samurai Champloo

Films:
Princess Mononoke
Naausica of the Valley of the Wind
Spirited Away
Grave of the Fireflies
Jin-Roh
Akira
The End of Evangelion (and Death and Rebirth if you count that)
FFVII: Advent Children
Metropolis

I know there is more, but I can't think right now.

I enjoy the narrative spontaneity and the laboured wordplay jokes. Also, I like the coupling of mature themes with whimsical breezy humour.

definately agree on that. most american cartoons are geared toward kids or have really immature humor. anime has thicker story lines and generally great characters. i am also a very visual person, so i love the complexities of the animation. miyazaki movies MUST be seen on the big screen in order to get the full effects of the scenes. he adds so many gorgeous details that you would miss on the small screen.

i haven't watched anime in a long time. i completely lost track of "full metal alchemist." i like the more sci-fi stuff than fantasy. i hate "inu yasha" and "fruits basket."

I enjoy anime for several reasons. I really enjoy listening to the Japanese language. Most dubs I've watched are miserable, so I stay way from those. I also really enjoy the culture. Especially their history and some anime series portray that history, or aspects of it, fairly well (Rurouni Kenshin to name one). One of my favorite reasons is the simple fact that if you can draw it, you can create it. They can do so much more with animation than with live actors so they get to create some really unique stuff.

I've been pulled to it since I was a kid, so you could almost say I've grown up with it.

I'm rather fond of Fruits Baskets; sometimes it grates a little, but the unabashed loveliness of it all cheers me up. Also, it contains a remarkable amount of gender confusion which is handled in a pretty interesting way.

Last night I enjoyed two (2) episodes of Knights of the Zodiac.
That was the very first anime I ever liked. Ah, childhood.

It's full of Norse and Greek mythology all in one.

Not particularly fond of anime or mangas. My sister seems to adore them.

Do you get something called "Thorgal" in the U.S.? It's a belgian/polish comic about a man born in the Viking world who has to accomplish a number of tasks etc.

I really like certain animes.
Light-hearted themes and such, like Kare Kano, Marmalade Boy, and Princess Tutu. (Very girly, I know)
The darkest types of anime that I actually enjoyed watching are DN Angel and Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok.

My aunt is from Japan and she used to give my sister and I bunches of copies of various Miyazaki films and television shows when we were little.

The films weren't dubbed or subtitled so I have no clue how my sister and I understood what was going on when watching them.

Ive seen some animes. I have seasons 1and2 of DBZ. Akira, and Jing: King of Bandits and like Speed Racer and Gigantor. Other than that, I hate most animes. They all have the same plots and generic characters.

I tried watching Argento Soma with a friend of mine a few weeks back.

My was it underwhelming. It's basically a poor man's Evangelion.
