The brass at the beginning of the song sounds more like horn to me, but I'm also not a brass player, =) Also, the trumpet sounds like a synth. It's hard to tell though because it's so low in the mix. _________________ EisleyForever wrote: you're A-list in my heart! MAKECOLDPLAYHISTORY |

It does sound sorta like a horn, it's got a little bit of a rough attack to it while trombone is really a smooth and low, even when high. I can't tell. I hate playing trombone It layers, so maybe the first is a horn and the other layering is a trombone? I STINK AT THIS. I don't think the trumpet is a synth, though... 'cause there's some virbrato and dynamic stuff that usually synth isn't so good at. _________________ my name's carrie and i love a good sandwich so if you have a sandwich, come roll with me! i'm gonna marry the mars volta. |

Yep yep...Plus an actual person is credited with trumpet in the inlay and I don't hear horns anywhere else on the record. And because its so low (volume) its hard to tell...but I was assuming trombone for the other part through detective work (picture of Richard playing it, talk in Trolleywood), but I see/hear the horn guess too... Obviously I'm not good, thus me starting this thread, but its fun as well... (though I wouldn't mind if Richard ruined the "game" eventually with the real answers ). |

Okay - the verse parts you are referring to is all trombone, performed by yours truly, arranged by Stacy! It is a bit rough sounding because I hadn't played it in at least a year. The trumpet is real (and I agree, mixed pretty low), appearing in the out chorus only. Yes Garron played fretless electric in the intro of Come Clean, but in the body of the song he played guitarron, a sort of giant acoustic fretless bass guitar. It can be seen in that big photo Linda took of the assembled band and recording crew and guitars in our back yard. As for the gamelan - wooden idiophones are usually used in a different type of gamelan orchestra that is comprised chiefly of wooden instruments, whereas the metallophone type gamelan doesn't usually have wooden instruments, except for the drums. _________________ http://richardgibbsmusic.com/ http://www.woodshedrecording.com/ |

I think that's what is used under the main layer of vocals. |
