Get that light into some good image editing software, and you can do great things with it. What is RAW? This probably explains it better than I can. ha. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raw_image_format Raw image files are sometimes called digital negatives, as they fulfill the same role as film negatives in traditional chemical photography: that is, the negative is not directly usable as an image, but has all of the information needed to create an image. In addition to raw files from cameras, raw data from film scanners can also be referred to as digital negatives. I highly recommend the format to all photographers who have cameras that shoot RAW, and the software to work with it. _________________ My photography:www.jamiemphoto.com You can't spell awesome without emo...backwards! -Julie definingawesome (11:44:11 PM): Eisley shivers our timbers |

Get that light into some good image editing software, and you can do great things with it. What is RAW? Enormous uncompressed image files (usually taken with a more expensive camera) that give you greater freedom for editing the photo later. When I first heard about RAW, it was on dooce.com, and she was talking about being able to wallpaper one side of her living room with her nephew's face if she wanted--the files were that high quality. You need extra plugins for photo editing software to handle the files, but for most professional photographers (and really talented amateurs like Sherri) it's worth it. _________________ INTELLECT AND ROMANCE OVER BRUTE FORCE AND CYNICISM Smokemonster |

For music people, I compare JPG (standard) compression to MP3. Whereas, RAW is like a CD quality song. Except the difference is even more pronounced. No generalized set of colors retained ... every last bit of color that hits the sensor is on that RAW file. It's really awesome when you compare. _________________ My photography:www.jamiemphoto.com You can't spell awesome without emo...backwards! -Julie definingawesome (11:44:11 PM): Eisley shivers our timbers |

It's kind of a big, scattered mess of pictures, but here's the address : http://www.flickr.com/photos/ratherhailey/ I check it fairly often. I figured since we're talking about photos, it's kind of relevant. |

Well she probably did a few things in photoshop. But she did long exposures at night so they just sort of look cool like that. Yeah, I'd say they're almost certainly tweaked, because I've never seen something come off a camera looking quite like that. But I could be wrong. Anyhow, it's more of a subtle edit; something I've yet to accomplish (I tend to go way over the top on photoshop). I usually tone down the saturation, then heat the picture up by changing to temp....like this one of my friend: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=30568295&id=61802986#pid=3056829 4 As soon as I'm done w/ school, I'm totally going to start photography on the side. Everyone should most def take a BW developing class though..it teaches you so much! _________________ "Another dent here - and another dent here.." http://www.myspace.com/tiffinycostello |

I dislike that it's being phased out as a requirement in photography programs. I'm glad I'm taking pictures tonight. I really, really want to take pictures. ha. _________________ My photography:www.jamiemphoto.com You can't spell awesome without emo...backwards! -Julie definingawesome (11:44:11 PM): Eisley shivers our timbers |

Yea, my photo lab teacher was anti-digital. It was fun. I am hoping to take some time-lapsed pictures of the meteor shower going on this weekend....gotta use my 35mm for this one. _________________ "Another dent here - and another dent here.." http://www.myspace.com/tiffinycostello |

I'm against being anti-digital, though I definitely think film should always have a place. I did avoid shooting film for most of five years, though. ha ha. But I'm over that now. Oh, to be on topic: Have I mentioned that I think Sherri's photography is getting really good? I think she's always had an eye for it. I hope she keeps this up, because I'd like to see more. _________________ My photography:www.jamiemphoto.com You can't spell awesome without emo...backwards! -Julie definingawesome (11:44:11 PM): Eisley shivers our timbers |

she's a real multi-treat artistically, music, drawing, and the photography seems to just get better and better every time she adds more. what's in the water over at the Duprees that they're all so artistic. _________________ I've gotten so good at lying to myself. When I fly solo, I fly so high. |

EDIT: After heading over to the flicker, I see Sherri references The Wizard of Oz about a photo similar also showing the ominous sky! http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2394/2103077844_41c404de53.jpg This one is super intense. The simple light and darks are enough to make it good. It's one of those pictures that would look good in black and white which is something many color photos would not do well in. _________________
