last night I had a dream I was in Middle School again (nightmare!) and I went to the school nurse to get some medicine for a head ache -- and the radio in the office was playing Ten Cent Blues. I got so excited so I started running around trying to find my friends to tell them and we got into a long conversation about how we were excited but disappointed because we don't want Eisley to become a huge radio band (which I don't think they will be). and then I woke up and was going to post on here "I heard Ten Cent Blues on the radio!!" and then I realized it wasn't true. hope everyone is having a great week. _________________ --- katrina. --- |

Everybody wants Eisley to remain their "little band," so they can introduce their friends to them and still get good spots at shows. Sure, it's selfish and it doesn't take into account the fact that Eisley gotta get paid, but it's also natural. I've felt that way about every band I've discovered, and for the ones that were already stadium-filling huge I've wished that I knew them back when they were still playing dive bars so I'd have bragging rights and could call all the new fans poseurs. In short, no one who feels that way wants Eisley to be poor. _________________ INTELLECT AND ROMANCE OVER BRUTE FORCE AND CYNICISM Smokemonster |

well, Kim, there are lots of ways of making a living without becoming a “big radio band!” there are a lot of smaller bands — some bands even smaller than Eisley! — who never had any sort of radio hit, and still get by with music as their primary or only source of income! heck, there are even musicians who are rich based on touring alone! i know that Eisley isn't there yet, and may never be, but, still… having said that, i really don't mind if Eisley does become a “big radio band”, as long as they don't start sounding like one (parts of Combinations veered too close for comfort already, actually…) there's a reason i can't stand to listen to the radio! |

well, i think it would be wonderful if Eisley had a radio hit. It could mean something good like radio is slowly getting better. When yellow was a radio hit it made me so glad because i had found a cd that i enjoyed all of the songs. That could hopefully happen to others who haven't heard Eisley, i think. _________________ "Commit to the Lord whatever you do and your plans will succeed." prov 16:3 |

Though the radio is filled with awful, simplistic music, it's the dishonesty and lack of integrity behind it that's the main turnoff for me. If someone wrote like that just for no pay and just to play in garages and house parties, that's not so awful. (They'd need to learn to write lyrics, maybe ...) But I can't come close to thinking that anything on "Combinations" comes close to the empty and black heart of a hit machine production. People think "simple choruses" are bad, for example, and I think they're mistaken. Simple choruses about simple things that go with overly simple music that's all aimed at not challenging simple minds (or to evoke cheap emotions like crude sexuality) in order to get money is bad. Not having to write a dictionary in every chorus is just being honest and not having to show off their vocabulary and indie-skillz ... If Eisley wanted a radio hit, they'd pump up the distortion on their guitars, too. Anyway, Ten Cent Blues on the radio would be neat. What a good song. _________________ My photography:www.jamiemphoto.com You can't spell awesome without emo...backwards! -Julie definingawesome (11:44:11 PM): Eisley shivers our timbers |

A few posts in this thread confirm certain things that I hate about the 'Indie Scene'. _________________ Power is only pain It’s probably better to have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside the tent pissing in. I hated the crowded-ness, and hated the bar, but loved Eisley and their music. For me the ideal location to hear them would be a little theater or coffee shop where I could sit/stand where I like, but that would mean smaller crowds and thus less profit for Eisley. On a much less important note, I had a dream that involved some of the Duprees about a week ago. |

It wasn't even crowded. _________________ "I should have listened to my friends" www.myspace.com/georgeproject www.purevolume.com/jesusworshiper |

Also, I don't think Kim honestly thought the person didn't want them to succeed. I think she was just pointing out the reality of that oft-expressed desire. I haven't remembered any dreams lately. hmm. _________________ My photography:www.jamiemphoto.com You can't spell awesome without emo...backwards! -Julie definingawesome (11:44:11 PM): Eisley shivers our timbers |

Yeah, I kinda feel like that too, it's like if they get too big they won't be the special cool band that no one I know, knows about anymore. (Especially in the UK). But, having said that i wish Eisley all the best and hope they achieve everything they want to as musicians. |

Ok I guess I should explain a little bit.. first of all the point of my story was to point out that it was funny that I thought my dream was actually real, not that I was disappointed they were on the radio!! my theory is that as long as any musician or artist is doing something they love and creating from their ideas and emotions and thoughts, it doesn't really matter how successful they become. if Eisley becomes really successful, it will hopefully mean that the listeners are becoming more tuned into great music and not that Eisley is writing music to make others happy or to become millionaires. I hope that clears things up... if Eisley is still... Eisley and is one day heard on the radio, I'd be happy for them. _________________ --- katrina. --- |
