I voted it is dicscrimination...I'm white, though...and I guess we all are, the ones who voted that...no offense...but only now that I am a minority in the U.S.(I'm foreing) I realize we should at least consider some kind of reparations...

my brother didn't get a job because hes white. it was just a part-time after-school job, and he will have a chance at many others im sure, but it still upset me a little. isn't this kind of going against everything equal rights laws have tried to accomplish?

That is a great point, because I do believe it kind of implies a "reverse discrimination" type of thing, which would still be discriminating...but I also think then, all those right movement tried to accomplish equiality for minorities(or just "different" people from the super all-american white protestant man), and maybe the reason why these policies are being implemented(A.Action) part is, because they want to provide them with a chance to "catch up"...know what I mean? SOrt of a refound for being so mistreated and not having the same opportunities other people, say white, have had in the past...and I also think they do it to protect College diversity...to make Universities richer...because if I have the exact same SAT a person that lived somewhere else had, say especially from a different culture or race, we are still going to have different opinions...and academic achievement is not all that matters... you bring up very good points. and you're right - i had never even thought of it that way. Very Happy still, i just believe theres a distinct line between providing minorities oppportunities to 'catch up' so to speak, and discrimination. and a lot of times, that line is crossed in really bad ways. hopefully THAT kind of affirmative action doesn't happen or continue happening.

I hope it doesn't indeed...because then iit would be have to be change to "Negative Action"...for it wouldn't be of any benefit... Confused

hahaha... i liked that "negative action"...

but as for affirmative action... i understand the idea behind it... the old history reasons such as the blacks and other "minorities" not having many of the rights they deserved... and with current issues such as dealing with a high school in a rich, suburban area where students may be the "majority" versus a school in a "ghetto" part of town where students may be predominantly "minority"... there are gonna be funding differences for the school programs and such... either way it seems as if the "minority" is losing/lost out on something they should have been entitled to.... an education or job or whatever....

but i still don't think affirmative action should be put in place... sure its to help out.. but i almost see it as a "awww, you can't do it on your own... lets pity you and help out" kinda thing... i dunno if thats wrong or whatnot... but thats just my view on it....

now i say this all as a "minority" myself although not one who is affected by this issue... but if i were say black or hispanic or such... me personally, i'd wanna get to whatever school i wanted to go to without the help of affirmative action... i'd wanna work hard and such so that i can say "look, i got here even without your help cuase i'm able to do this" .... i don't know if i'm making any sense or not... but thats my 2 cents....

i dont liek it at all, my dad worked very hard , did very well in college, but couldnt get a job cause he was white and workplaces needed to get as many minorities as possible, dispite who was more quallified. i dunno , it just seems like racism all over again, no races should get special treatment.
