i dunno...i love to read and i have definitely read a few more than one set of series books...and i really liked the twilight series. it wasn't the most amazing series ive ever read and im not obsessed with it by any stretch but i do think they are a pretty solid series. 
and i listened to paramore's song and i think its really good. |

Agreed- which is why pretty much all the bands and personalities that really developed the aesthetic and style that inspired that press/marketing fabrication trying to pass itself off as a subculture completely and vehemently disavowed any association with it by the time it had a name. too right about the emo thing, too. Everything that was tiresome about what people used to call 'goth' (not the campy, sappy, costume party fantasy obsession it turned into), and none of what was interesting. Just goes to show that anything old can be dusted off, repackaged, and re-marketed to the next generation. I am pretentious. How'd you guess? Anyway, I'd have to argue that "subculture" came before "goth". When the press noticed the subculture, they didn't call it "goth"-- they called it "positive punk" or "posi-punk". There are a few stories about where the name "goth" came from. But let's remember that "gothic" (adj.) was a fairly common word used in music journalism to describe something dark. But the media helped turn it into a noun. But you're right about most goth (not goff) bands fighting tooth and nail against being labeled 'goth'. Andrew Eldritch is probably the worst. He's kicked bands off of his tour for "looking too goth". He's left autograph signings because the crowd "looked too goth"  But I also think that the band denial really led to this nebulous definition of what it is, which is both a blessing and a curse. The curse being what I listed above. I mean you don't really have the Ramones saying "We're not punk!" You did have Ozzy saying that he wasn't heavy metal as late as the 90s, and the same with Zeppelin. But within the metal community, if you're a fan of Black Sabbath metal or you’re a fan of Korn, you know that Iron Maiden is a heavy metal band. Goth doesn't really have such a consensus. You'll have people who say Manson is goth. You'll have people say, "STFU he isn't". Et cetera et cetera. This is one of the reasons I like "Goth history". It's very complicated and very convoluted. I'll ask you this, who was the first rockstar who wore mostly black, had black hair, and wore eyeliner when he got famous?
Anyway, I still think that Eisley's Marvelous Things sounds like Siouxsie and the Banshees go West! Thematically Eisley has always been kind of 'dark'. So a song about vampires, hey. Just as long as it's good and doesn't get too 'Twilighty' And I don't think the 'darkness' in emo phenomenon is all that new, if you look at every popular music genre since the Hair Metal you'll notice that there are almost always a few sub-subgenres that pop up under the larger umbrella genre. (Christian, Electronica, Dark/"gothic", Traditional, et cetera. I think the extreme reaction stems from the myth that people have spread about books, "If you read any book it makes you smart because it's a book!" Many people have come to realize how stupid this line of thinking is and don't want their literary sanctuary to fall to the idiotic kids who are sycophantically following a fad. Ergo, they attack books to save the face of reading. Quite noble really. 
Oh, I read Sherri's reply to this thread. Somehow, I'm not ashamed of anything I typed. Picnics are fun. Roller coasters are fun. Pissing of little kids is fun. Lol, I personally dislike them, but it's a ridiculous notion that you can't like something unless it's rich and deep, without being a complete moron. Sometimes people just like to have fun, and not take themselves, or their interests too seriously.
