A lot of actors have gone from goofy comedies to full blown Oscar worthy performances. I'm not sure who I am fully behind, or hate the most, but here we go, have at it! *edit* Maybe I should have swapped Will Ferrell with Woody Harrelson I or something, but Stranger Than Fiction seemed tailor made for any of the other guys on the list and he landed it, so I anticipate more such roles for him. _________________ yup, that's my name. You know, Kicking and Screaming was semi-dramatic for him. So... yeah. But I voted for Jim Carrey, even though it was an almost tie between him and Bill Murray. But oh oh oh... Jim Carrey will always posses my heart. (I mean, Eternal Sunshine? Yes!) _________________ My name is actually Sarah. Facebook. Twitter. |

Yeah, but Man in the Moon, in that one he finally got me over the Ace Ventura/ Mask stigma I always cast on em'. ESSM was great, but Man on the Moon might have been his peak performance thus far IMHO. I'm not gonna bias the poll, but the Triumvirate that heads that list all have a case for my personal respect and admiration, but Bill is my pick to take the checkered flag _________________ yup, that's my name. I'm not really selling him very well. I think there is a bias in this poll that I didn't intend. The purest comedic acting of the top 3 guys is at the least 20 years back in their bodies of work. People would have a completely different take on this if we sat em' down to watch: Mork & Mindy and Popeye Stripes and Caddie Shack Bosom Buddies & Big _________________ yup, that's my name. Eternal Sunshine was good, but not that good. Actually I would probably change my vote now to Hanks if I could. His scope is just >>> to the rest in these roles. Saving Private Ryan, Forrest Gump, Philly, The Green Mile compared to Good Will Hunting, Eternal Sunshine and the Truman Show, and Lost in Translation. Murray basically played himself in that movie. Hanks>>>Williams>Carrey>Murray>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Ferrell (although if it went in comedic rank it's Murray>Willams>Carrey>Ferrell>Hanks) |

Has Will Ferrell been in a good movie that wasn't Elf? Actually, has he been in anything good at all? Save for Elf, a skit or two on SNL and a web short. And I should mention that I think The Anchorman is an atrocity. I'm too torn between the other candidates. I'd have to probably go with Tom Hanks and Robin Williams right now, though. Jim Carrey is great, but he's still only made a few great movies in comparison. This will likely get much harder as he adds to that. _________________ My photography:www.jamiemphoto.com You can't spell awesome without emo...backwards! -Julie definingawesome (11:44:11 PM): Eisley shivers our timbers |

Robin Williams is great as a serious actor. especially a freaky character. Although he is amazing in Good Will Hunting and Awakening _________________ Wil's excellent description of me. wilsmith wrote: You're the Anti-Censorship+Topless Twitpic Parodying+Youth Group Video Directing guy that's a champion for the 1st amendment, Videogames as Art, and unrepentant file sharing... It's partitally the lines that were written for him, but I couldn't imagine anyone else in that role. |

I am not a Will Ferrell fan boy, hardly a fan, but Stranger Than Fiction was a good movie. I think it's the only Will Ferrell Feature I've watched in its entirety. That alone, was a landmark for me. Also, I realized that there are other comedic/ dramatic actors I omitted: Dustin Hoffman and Kevin Klein Greg Kinnear even though most of his comedy was on Talk Soup and my money is that Steve Carrel is going to cash in big time one day and go the Oscar route. _________________ yup, that's my name. Let's go the other way and talk about Alec Baldwin. He went from serious to comedic. and he is great! Off the top of my head I can't think of any other serious actors that now do comedy. _________________ Wil's excellent description of me. wilsmith wrote: You're the Anti-Censorship+Topless Twitpic Parodying+Youth Group Video Directing guy that's a champion for the 1st amendment, Videogames as Art, and unrepentant file sharing...
