Apollo really suits him, based on his fiery colour. Moist sounds kinda dirty to me.

I'm glad my post inspired you to bring a new betta home!

At least 'Moist' would make sense... it's a fish...and smells like... Laughing

am i right in guessing that Badger is because of the bowler-hatted ragamuffin in Firefly?

You got it. There were three Joss Whedon-associated names in that list, and one from Battlestar Galactica. God help my future children. Laughing

Apollo passed away tonight; he hadn't eaten at all since I bought him eight days ago. What a lovely cap to a depressing day.

Thanks again for the name input, all--short-lived as he was, he had a classy moniker.

Wow, that sucks... sorry to hear the little guy didn't hold up, and yet....

Well, I can say this, cause you have a sense of humor as far as the board is concerned...

I'm glad I changed my vote Smile

I can see I was late on to the fish naming bandwagon. Sorry to hear about Apollo, but I was hoping that's what you were going to name it. When I was younger I wanted to name my first son Apollo since I had a mythology obsession and whatnot.

RIP little fishy.

Laughing I'm actually hoping the fish's death is a sign that a similar fate will befall his Battlestar Galactica namesake in the final episodes. I've always hated that guy.

It's entirely possible; I bought him from PetSmart when I should have just shelled out the extra few bucks for one from a locally owned pet store. Those big box stores aren't exactly renowned for the health of their stock, particularly when the animals are as inexpensive and "disposable" as bettas.

But bettas are also notoriously finicky eaters, and often more fragile than they're purported to be, and my husband changed his water yesterday and I'm not sure he used the water conditioner, so I wasn't going to take his poor corpse back and demand a refund. I buried him in the front yard and I'll probably buy another one next week. As attached as I grow to my small aquatic pets, I'm usually quick to replace them. Wink
