I usually hate it when people sound too clean. It's one of the reasons why I can't get into Mute Math. No-- I've tried, but I just get annoyed. I much prefer 'character' vocals (I guess some people call it 'soul' some people call it '$#@!') like this or this. _________________ Power is only pain It’s probably better to have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside the tent pissing in. I was elaborating the post above to explain why I think that might be... Be Kind sounds pretty challenging, though, and I thought Stacy pulled it off pretty cleanly in the Brewtones clip I saw. |

I thought we were talking about technical precision... I do agree that I like their voices better, at this point, when they are doing what they do best, which is the intense, but controlled, etherial thing, rather than R&B belting or screaming (btw, if you want to here some truly gorgeous screaming, check out Crystal Antlers). I don't think it sounds that bad when sheri does that (Stacy really doesn't), but its just not as good as when she does what she, at this point, does best. I think maybe I detect a will to do a bit more sort of R&B style belting (kind of like... no... I'm not gonna say it) rather than a Black Francis style screetch, but I agree that pulling that off with consistency so that it really comes across is gonna take a bit of training - as it would for pretty much anyone, and it does come out a bit strained as of now. In mean time, I disagree that what she puts out now is bad... she just doesn't do it as well as she does the lilting, ethereal, Liz Frazer style stuff. |

Myself, I love Combinations. I love Room Noises. I love Mr. Pine and Lady of the Wood. I love both Sherri and Stacy's (and Chauntelle's) vocals. To me, Eisley is the emotional connection I have with the songs. _________________

yeah, for sure.
Sherri+acoustic= pleasing-to-my-ears match made in heaven. She sounds amazing in a quieter setting. I love Eisley acoustic. Everything I've said previously applies to an amplified setting. |
