Crying or Very sad

I really LOVED The Sound of An Empty Room, it was the Epitome of my taste in music for the early Y2ks personified.

I lnew something was fishy when Kristen created her own twitter account a month or so ago.

I also noticed their official website re-directs to their own tumblr now, and their artist page is no longer on Epic's website. So I assume they must have been dropped?

It's a shame, really, 'cause I was fully expecting Vedera to break through with Stages. It seemed tailor-made for Pop/Hot AC radio.

so that link doesn't go anywhere.

so i can only assume that vedara doesn't exist anymore and the lead singer went solo?

I really really liked "back to the middle"

i will be interested in seeing what she does

it's been taken down from what I can tell.

Long story short, it said that Kristen and Brian (Her husband) are going to keep making music together under her name. The Drummer, Drew, Brian's brother, is going back to school and playing in a KC band. The bass player, Jason, is taking time to decide what he wants to do with music at this point. The band is on Hiatus (not necessarily broken up).

I know that Kristen was writing with Mike Elizondo a big time producer, and a few others, and up till a while ago, the assumption was those songs would be Vedera songs. The video for her new single, Distracted, was actually a Vedera video initially, given the whole band is featured. It seems like the material that they were recording lends itself to a solo act and doesn't feature that band sound that was a big feature on their first release and a some of Stages, albeit that album was decidedly more of a song based release and more of a production than the band feel of The Weight of an Empty Room.

Here's the video and Kristen's tumblr, the video, & soundcloud with 3 new songs in progress, which are all upbeat piano pop.

Maybe this will be the breakthrough they need? If she can make strides and get her star to rise, coming back for a Vedera victory lap now and then might be feasible, and that's enough for me. Call it the No Doubt method (not like Gwen needed a career boost though, but less pie to divvy up...)

I loved them the first time I saw them, when they opened for Eisley.

The second time I saw them, they used some awful backing track during the show. It was completely distracting and unnecessary. Her voice is fine by itself, and the fake backup vocals basically ruined any song they were in.

I'm listening to Distracted now, and I don't really like it. It is pretty generic pop --- something Mandy Moore might put out.

I actually liked some songs from Mandy's last record. She did right working with Mike Viola.

I do agree. I'm talking Mandy when she was trying to be popular though during her "Candy" days. Her last CD was pretty decent as well as some songs from the one before that (namely "Gardenia").

I saw Vedera at the House of Blues in Dallas on Eisley's Combinations tour and loved them. Saw them again at the Henry Fonda in Los Angeles when they opened for Mat Kearney, loved 'em again. I jam out whenever 'Look Around' comes on my ipod haha. Sad they broke up if thats true . . . the whole band was so good.

Golly, Poster

Here's an email blast they sent out last week...

Quote:
Friends of Vedera:

Thank you so much for your support and love for our band. You have kept us pursuing our dreams and living out our passion. For seven years we have shared our music with you and you have listened, sang with us, danced with us and encouraged us with your kind words after shows and online through facebook, twitter, etc. Every one of you means the world to us. You are our heart. Thank you.

This past year has brought many changes in our band. We’ve seen a shift happen in each of us, a growth, new ideas molding each of us internally, causing us to re-examine ourselves and our musical family, Vedera.

Brian, Drew, Jason and I have decided to put the band on hiatus while we pursue other avenues. Drew will be returning to school. He is also currently jamming with his friends in a new band from Kansas City called The Slowdown. Please check them out on Facebook. Jason would like to take time to figure out what it is he wants in the music world and possibly pursue other interests at this time.

As for Brian and I, we have decided to move on and make a solo album with all the songs I have written and we have co-written together. I have had the chance to write a ton this year and have been increasingly excited about sharing new music. I feel like a kid again, like I did when I first started Vedera. Music is still very much my passion and I hope you will have the same open mind and heart when listening to my new project!! With that said, please take a moment to listen to the three new songs I have put on my tumblr page, which for the moment will be the official home of me, Kristen May.

We'll keep you updated on the new album, tour dates and other fun things via this same email list, the tumblr site and everyone's favorite, Facebook. Keep checking the site as I'll be sharing a lot of music: demos, covers and other fun things.

We'll be in touch after the new year with lots more information, in the meantime, please check out the new songs and share with your friends! Oh you can also follow me on twitter @iamkristenmay

Once again, thanks so much for being so wonderful. We have seven amazing years to look back on in part, because you are such great fans.

Much love and Happy Holidays,

Kristen and Vedera

Yeah, that's what was in the fanbridge link that I so ineloquently tried to summarize/ paraphrase up there...

I've been really conflicted about the hiatus, bht in a lot of ways, the writing was on the wall. I just hope the hiatus is their idea & not a management initiative.

At least now we know what to expect once Stacy's solo album comes out.

(The previous statement is intended to appear as serious as Jim Carrey would in a facemaking contest.)
