The Fuzzed Out tones and chord progressions on Deep Space are very old school Starflyer 69 and I could hear Laugh It Off on one of the more recent records like Talking Voice/ Singing Voice if I'm remembering the sound of that record right, it's been a hot minute. Still fuming of the Light's Out dissing. I'm a sucker for a waltz and a sing songy melody, crunchy and sparkly guitars, fat bass, sick drumming and rhodes... and I LOVE that song, so them's fightin' words. _________________ yup, that's my name. Sorry, David... Okay, I just listened to it again, with the Buckley & VT comparison in mind. You're right; it isn't as bad as Evanescence, but it's not Grace either. I don't think it will grow on me, though, lacking a melody and all... Sorry, I'm just being awful now. Oh good, Laugh It Off just started. I adore Beach House/Vicki Legrand and Stevie Nicks, but this blows them both out of the proverbial water. _________________ Albert Camus wrote: Always go too far, because that's where you'll find the truth. |

Hmm, I'm not hearing any nu-metal, Evanescence sound in Lights Out. It reminded me a bit of My Morning Jacket or even Fleet Foxes in some parts, could be way off on that though. Laugh It Off is really good too, maybe reminded me of a laid back Fleetwood Mac sound, not "droning". The only part that bothered me is the kick drum is distorted. _________________ we're really not alone, we have each other |

The keys on that one do give it a bit of a Rumors vibe, along with how Stacy sings those upper register high notes, but it's got a swagger, a hipness to it, thanks to that backbeat and arrangement. I had a hard time thinking of an artist who does that nowadays. Last good example I had would have been some of Sarah Mclachlan's stuff. tahruh wrote: Okay, I just listened to it again, with the Buckley & VT comparison in mind. You're right; it isn't as bad as Evanescence that's better than nothing. I'll take "not as good as Grace" over "sounds like Evanescence" any day. I've heard so many good yet slightly similar rock waltzes that what they chose to do with this one is so refreshing and invigorating for me. Plus the sentiment of the song resonates deeply on a personal level. _________________ yup, that's my name. FOR YOUR RATING PLEASURE: 4 LIKE Buttons, 1 NEUTRAL, 1 VEXED, 5 DISLIKE buttons. No. I don't like Lights Out. It reminds me of Evanescence or something of that nature. Laugh It Off is gorgeous. I just can't believe the way Stacy continues to grow as an artist. And she's only 23! She's just so awesome; I am a true stan. Deep Space is great. Sort of feels like it ventures out of SDRE emo territory into early 2000s emo (like Senses Fail-esque D: ) territory at times, but it doesn't stay there for too long, thankfully. 192 Days is less annoying to me than the original. The lyrics will never allow me to listen to it again, though. One Last Song is the progression I always expected from them. Perfect. Aww, Eisley's back, y'all! Just my opinion. One Last Song is Perfect and the rest is unmelodious sludge that I don't like listening to. Disappointing for me personally, but I am glad they are trying new things. |

I still can't believe you don't at least like Laugh it Off or the verses on Deep Space. Those two have so much vibe going for them. the arrangements a just so elegant and slightly seductive. _________________ yup, that's my name. The songs on this E.P. seem much more experimental, and much more natural than any other Eisley songs I've heard, except the real early stuff. It feels organic. It has a simple charm, and a subtlety to it. It captures a moment in time, which I love. Something about the drums, perhaps the way they were recorded, they sound dreamy. The vocals, as usual, are just genius. They have a new freedom, though. The guitar might impress me the most. It seems uninhibited, and not the least bit contrived. The Rhodes is magic. It's like the music is just breathing. That could be why some people are underwhelmed. There is nothing "in your face" on this E.P. I love it. _________________ You can't find love; you have to create it. Flickr |

Live posting during first Paste stream: Lights Out - like the production. sounds the most like actually Eisley I've ever heard. Laugh It Off - bad*** beat and Rhodes. Mellotron or keyboard mimicking Mellotron strings. Deep Space - has some old school Eisley fridge buzz. nice solo. 192 Days - nice piano touches. most Beatle-y yet. is the musical saw like sound vocally done? One Last Song - nice end. First listen through, it may be my favorite thing they've done. Finally someone recorded Sherri's vocals right - they actually sound like Sherri and not like something is on them and they sound great. Please use the same set up - Andy Freeman / recording at home for the next album. I actually find it hard to believe none of this material will be saved for the next album. _________________ I am Torgo. I take care of the place while the Master is away. |

It's a good sign that they think they can do as well if not better as songwriters and musicians. We're in for one heck of a ride as fans. The gloves are off and they're not afraid to take a few wild swings _________________ yup, that's my name. FOR YOUR RATING PLEASURE: 4 LIKE Buttons, 1 NEUTRAL, 1 VEXED, 5 DISLIKE buttons. Okay, I finally got to listen to the songs on my good headphones and AH. I have to say, I thought initially I would only really like "Laugh it Off," but I'm loving all of them. Especially "Deep Space," I started geeking out during the interlude. _________________ www.kailahandler.bandcamp.com |
