Hmm, I'm not hearing any nu-metal, Evanescence sound in Lights Out. It reminded me a bit of My Morning Jacket or even Fleet Foxes in some parts, could be way off on that though. Laugh It Off is really good too, maybe reminded me of a laid back Fleetwood Mac sound, not "droning". The only part that bothered me is the kick drum is distorted. _________________

The keys on that one do give it a bit of a Rumors vibe, along with how Stacy sings those upper register high notes, but it's got a swagger, a hipness to it, thanks to that backbeat and arrangement. I had a hard time thinking of an artist who does that nowadays. No. I don't like Lights Out. It reminds me of Evanescence or something of that nature. Laugh It Off is gorgeous. I just can't believe the way Stacy continues to grow as an artist. And she's only 23! She's just so awesome; I am a true stan. Deep Space is great. Sort of feels like it ventures out of SDRE emo territory into early 2000s emo (like Senses Fail-esque D: ) territory at times, but it doesn't stay there for too long, thankfully. 192 Days is less annoying to me than the original. The lyrics will never allow me to listen to it again, though. One Last Song is the progression I always expected from them. Perfect. Aww, Eisley's back, y'all! Just my opinion. One Last Song is Perfect and the rest is unmelodious sludge that I don't like listening to. Disappointing for me personally, but I am glad they are trying new things. |

The songs on this E.P. seem much more experimental, and much more natural than any other Eisley songs I've heard, except the real early stuff. It feels organic. It has a simple charm, and a subtlety to it. It captures a moment in time, which I love. Something about the drums, perhaps the way they were recorded, they sound dreamy. The vocals, as usual, are just genius. They have a new freedom, though. The guitar might impress me the most. It seems uninhibited, and not the least bit contrived. The Rhodes is magic. It's like the music is just breathing. That could be why some people are underwhelmed. There is nothing "in your face" on this E.P. Live posting during first Paste stream: Lights Out - like the production. sounds the most like actually Eisley I've ever heard. Laugh It Off - bad*** beat and Rhodes. Mellotron or keyboard mimicking Mellotron strings. Deep Space - has some old school Eisley fridge buzz. nice solo. 192 Days - nice piano touches. most Beatle-y yet. is the musical saw like sound vocally done? One Last Song - nice end. First listen through, it may be my favorite thing they've done. Finally someone recorded Sherri's vocals right - they actually sound like Sherri and not like something is on them and they sound great. Please use the same set up - Andy Freeman / recording at home for the next album.
