I'm kind of sick of all of this forced sullen nonsense, to be honest. These are happy people from happy families, as far as I can tell. Crack a damn smile. Or put some life into your eyes, something. You don't necessarily need to smile to not look sullen. |

I would expect nothing less of this place. What if the album is all sad, lovelorn songs? Music is usually a case where the book is judged by the cover, so art does matter in that regard. I think the bar is raised given this is a crew of folk known for their visual art as well. For that reason I understand all the critiques. Also, I can give you one reason why anyone making music like this would be sullen in a photo shoot: They were listening to the radio on the ride over, or had it playing on location. As nice as life may seem for folks, the music business is pretty discouraging. Not because of the rate of success and failure commercially, but because you are ultimately putting yourself and your creative process out for consumption, or rejection. Popularity contests are only fun for the winners. For everyone else, there's a lot of psychological baggage that has to be unpacked to manage being well-adjusted. Anyone in the midst of that process is likely to come off melancholy at some point. It's along the lines of someone who is happily in love. If you catch them at a time when they are apart from the person they love, they might be lonely, missing them. The music business, for artists, is a perpetual chase after unrequited loves: 1. critical acclaim 2. the respect of your peers 3. making a living 4. normality and perhaps someone hipped them to the gripes on the board: http://t.co/uS62eKWLRJ _________________ yup, that's my name. i actually like it a lot more than i thought i would. it's not exactly my cup of tea, but i think it goes a bit beyond than typical singer/songwriter vibe i was expecting. _________________ Oneironaut http://www.facebook.com/ChengBand |

I just listened to the first :42 and after the drums and piano came in I had to stop. Definitely waiting on the cd for this one cause they obviously didn't rest on their laurels and stick to the sound as previously heard. Seems the "Currents' of the production approach used on the last Eisley LP are going to run through most all of their works collectively at some point, and this is a wonderful thing as far as I'm concerned. I definitely can't spoil it now. That tease was enough to get me even more geeked up. Ship notification went out today, so it won't be long from NYC I imagine. _________________ yup, that's my name.
