Mazes and Monsters

I was reading a thread on another forum about D&D, and somebody mentioned this TV movie starring Tom Hanks. It's about some college kids who decide to live action role play in a mine near their school. I found it on YouTube and ended up watching the whole laughably bad thing. Here, I'll save you some time and show you the good parts.

Tom Hanks freaks out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6AOd6r6Qi8

The emotional conclusion atop the WTC (with Oscar quality acting from Hanks at the 50 second mark, lol): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfxXug5ZMdk

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

I saw it last night in 3D, and wow. It was easily the best Star Wars movie since Empire, a real throwback to the old ones. That took me back to being a kid, which was fun. I may see it again once the crowds die down.

Child 44 - Smile Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Noomi Rapace. Cold War crime drama ain't too shabby in spite of poor review scores.

Trance - Smile on to James McAvoy, another guy who has gotten to play a younger incarnation of Patrick Stewart, in a thriller of sorts. He really shows his dramatic range. Rosario Dawson's voice deserves equal billing though her visage will trump that for some.

Dredd - Confused post 2014 this movie, though well made, paints in a moral shade of gray that should only sit well with the most zealous of right wing hawks and their followers.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens- Smile an entertaining action adventure with the expected, but not overly abundant amount if camp. So long as they stay this good at minimum, all is right with the Force/ Franchise.

I have been checking the Eisley related Instagrams to see what they say about Star Wars, but I don't know if any of them have seen it.
Very surprised. They take photos of everything, but I haven't seen the movie mentioned at all.
Their band name is from Star Wars!

I have had two dvds from the library so scratched they stop completely

John Wick - Cool It is what it made itself out to be. Ultra Violent.
Mad Max: Fury Road Smile As quirky and manic as the original films with far less stillness and desolation to hypnotize you. Nothing is stark, it's all just visually stunning throughout.

both just when they were getting really going.

After Mad Max tanked today I watched Kingsmen Smile Ultra Violent and Vulgar. Basically what I expect of Deadpool, which I won't be going out to see. I honestly quit reading marvel and comics in general before his character started to got his own series, cause it just got too expensive on a college student's non existent budget to keep up.

Gonna hit the Theater to see Hunger Games this week. Got some other dvds to check out and hopefully well get good copies of John Wick and Mad Max to View.

The Big Short

I thought it was an excellent movie with a strong, multi-layered cast and some fun cameos during the necessary exposition segments. I really enjoyed it, and it was a good reminder about how much worse things could have gotten back then.

Joy

I was kind of surprised to see this movie getting panned in reviews and on imdb. I did think that it ran a bit long, but it was still good. I would rank the work from this cast and director combination in this order:

Silver Linings Playbook
Joy
American Hustle

The Hunger Games Mockingjay Pt. 2 - Smile best film in the series, as far as meriting a theater going experience, in my opinion at least. Definitely flawed at points, but seldom is a movie designed to stoke the id flawless.

^ thought it was a fun action romp.

I really liked the first movie. Once the premise had been broached and explored, though, I think the series became progressively less interesting. Still a good outing though.

- Spotlight
- Calvary

Heavy stuff- two dense, thought-provoking movies. Highly recommend both.

Also- Nighcrawler

Different kettle of fish, but very good. Jake in rare form.

I think the dead of winter is all about heavy films after christmas cheer has withered. Case in point:

The Revenant Smile This is a GNARLY movie. VISCERAL. It's also full of beautiful cinematography and landscapes. The acting is compelling, and sometimes distracting. For the faint of heart or weak of stomach, treat carefully.

The Big Short Smile indie drama with a lot of editing style and flair. The story is rather straight forward and plodding at points.

Trainwreck

I watched about half of it before my girlfriend and I got bored and I had a stomachache, so we turned it off. It's not terrible, but didn't really hold our attention. John Cena was funny though.

What made you change your mind on seeing Deadpool?
The popularity has me interested, but I don't know if it will be my thing. Probably wait for video.

Pixels
The Visit
The Martian
Bebe's Kids
Doom
Detour
Vacancy
Pretty much every Star Wars film
Ant-Man
Ishtar
Star Trek V
IJ/Crystal Skull
Waterworld
MST3K: Screaming Skull/Squirm/Black Scorpion
Tomorrowland
To Die For

Still no DuPree word on Force Awakens. =(

RE: Deadpool - All the movies I've seen this year, going back to Star Wars actually, were group outings with friends from my band days. So, it's more of a social outing than a "Hey, I REALLY want to see this movie." outing. Most of the big movies I see, it's with this particular group of friends. We do most of the comic movies and franchises.

10 Cloverfield Lane, as well.

Really well done, for that sort of thing!

I agree. My only nitpick was that most of the twists were pretty predictable.

Deadpool didn't do anything for me. I actually fell asleep in the theater during the slowest part when he was getting sick. But, to be fair, I'm not really big on comic book movies overall.
