Deadpool is basically a Judd Apatow movie, but with a character fans already enjoy for his acerbic whit & shamelessness. He is Spider-man with the moral compass of Lobo.

Dawn of Justice Smile It was what it was supposed to be. Temper you expectations appropriately. Zack Snyder excels when directly adapting material sans much alteration. He doesn't have that luxury as these movies are mash-ups of DC continuity, which has been rewritten every 5 or so years, for the last 30 years, with varying results.

Hardcore Henry -- I really enjoyed it. I was thinking the first person style might give me motion sickness, but I got used to it after a while. The plot was cool and fun, and I've had a huge crush on Haley Bennett since Music and Lyrics. She didn't disappoint.

A few of the action scenes ran a bit long, to the point where it felt like watching someone play a video game. But overall I liked this flick and its unique perspective.

Yeah, dude, I saw The Jungle Book in 3D.
Some of the coolest use of 3D was during the credits - they had 3D animated songs. Unfortunately, all other patrons got up immediately and I was the only one in the theater watching it and the clean up crew came in.

The Nice Guys
Cobra
Don Verdean - not many people know Jared Hess has a new movie out. It is a return to form imo after Gentlemen Broncos.
Heavy Metal
MST3K: Outlaw of Gor
The Town That Dreaded Sundown
Krampus

I forgot about this thread:

Comicbookacon continues:

Capt. USA - Civil Disobedience

Ex-Men - Armageddon

None of them were perfect, but X-Men had the best climax. Cap had the best middle section, and Deadpool has the best editing/ construction of the narrative overall.

Ghostbusters 1 & 2.
Don't really understand why a lot of people say 2 is bad. They must not like Egon/Harold Ramis, as he gets a lot of subtle, funny lines in 2.

Blues Brothers 2000/Lost World:JP/JP III - All TV edits.
ID4
Charlie/Choc Factory
Summer of Sam
Adventures of Ford Fairlane

The Last Five Years

It's a movie based on a musical of the same name. The original stage show just has two actors, it's only songs, and there's no dialogue. The movie adaptation has a lot of extras and a bit of dialogue added in to help explain the plot. Essentially, it's about a 5-year relationship told from both points of view. Jaime's POV is in chronological order while Cathy's POV is in reverse chronological order. Movie was pretty good, fairly faithful to the original.

Thor

Yes, I'm about 5 years behind on this one. My partner and I are slowly working on catching up on the Marvel films. The only ones I'd seen before are the first two Iron Man films and the Hulk film with Ed Norton. Now I can add Thor and Captain America to the list.

Star Trek: Begone - Smile It was aiiiight. They got some of the classic beats of the original characters right, and made some questionable choices outside of that...

Jason Bjorn Smile - It was a good movie of this particular sort of movies. It will find you, and it will thrill you.

What Happened, Miss Simone - Very Happy I didn't know what to expect going into this documentary, as Nina Simone was an enigmatic figure I came to now by name by way of Point of No Return, and had only prior had a faint recognition of her work incidentally. Her mystique loomed large in my latter college years and my appreciation of her work intensified when I began researching the evolution of African American contributions to American music that resulted in being segregated from genres African Americans helped pioneer, by industry forces, and ultimately cultural/ societal pressure reinforcing self segregation physically and psychologically.

The Shallows - Decent summer popcorn fun. Basically a cross between Blue Crush and Jaws.

The Neon Demon - Really, really out there, but kind of delicious to watch. The story is a slow burn, and there's not a ton of dialog, but the movie is visually stunning. There isn't a lot of depth to go along with all of the style, either. Elle Fanning is fantastic, though.

Deicide Squad - Neutral There was exactly ONE compelling character that I empathized with. That seems appropriate since these ought to be villains, not anti-heroes.

Their power levels explain precisely why they were locked up to begin with. It was too soon to do this as a DCEU film, but as a stand alone project unrelated to a shared universe it works for what it is. It would be fine if they had played the roles and not been established comic book characters.

File under canon fodder.

The Scorch Trials - Cool It could have been a whole lot worse that it was, and felt more along the lines of what I figure the Divergent Series and Hunger Games sequels were going for (the final Hunger Games pulled it off for maybe 50% of the move. the other 50% was like an episode of ER)
