I took swimming lessons when I was fourteen or fifteen, and I got pretty comfortable in the water, but since then I'd be in a pool maybe once a year. I'm right back to where I was before now. I really need to learn again. _________________ INTELLECT AND ROMANCE OVER BRUTE FORCE AND CYNICISM Smokemonster |

I'm horrible at swimming though, I can go about...10 feet or so...then I'm screwed. haha Seriously though, i haven't been swimming in like 6 years. I don't feel confident enough to go swimming anymore. Luckily it's not one of those things you forget, though. |

I'm honestly really shocked at how many of you can't swim. Nothing judgmental or anything, it's just VERY uncommon around here. I'm sure half of you being land-locked doesn't help, but what do you do in the summer to cool down?! How do you get by without spending hours in a pool? I think the only person I know who can't swim is my father, but at 46 he's finally decided to learn and has been taking lessons for the past month or so. He's still pretty nervous about it (in the summer he hated even being near the pool) but he's enjoying himself too. I can't think of any activity that's as relaxing and healthy as swimming. _________________ |

Hm, I can swim, sort of. As in I can float and kind of move around, but I can't do any hardcore swimming. Haha. I'm pretty good at just laying on my back and floating around, though. (= The sad thing is, in the summer I go to my friends house to swim around since she has a pretty beast pool, but her little sisters (5, and are so much better at swimming then I am. )= |

sucks to be a floater! Well I have a BMI of about 21, which is in the normal range (18-25) and I feel like a fish in the water. my bmi is about 17ish so explains why i sunk alot, thought as i don't weigh much i'd float... hmmm _________________ flickr.com/notathome smile |

Size isn't everything, though; I learned to swim when I was 4 and floating was step one. vintage_snowflake wrote: Well I'M on my high school school swim team. Ugh, how can you do it?! I swam competitively all throughout elementary and middle school, but I had to quit when I got to high school... way too much going on to make that sort of time commitment (I was in a club, not a school team.) _________________ |

My 5 year old has about mastered Swimming 3. She'll be moving to swimming 4 soon. She can swim across the pool on her stomach, on her back, etc... I'm sure she'll be doing laps after swimming 4. The way I see it, better to make a world class athlete out of her now then to pay for college later! So hopefully swimming scholarship!! |
