Well it was plugged into the sound board. It didn't sound like that, actually.

so they took the sound directly from the mixer as well?

did they record the entire show?

they really should do something with this - if not commercially, at least put it out there for free...why let it waste away in some "vault?"

in regards to the 10 minute song comment:

that is kinda what i was thinking of a multi-part song like Paranoid Android/Bohemian Rhapsody/Happiness is a Warm Gun. one where they all play guitar at one point and switch instruments, etc., where you take multiple songs/bits and put them together. sometimes you can go overboard - i think The Decemberists (colin meloy) did on the last album - and Stephen Malkmus, as much as i like Real Emotional Trash, i don't always want to listen to that many long songs in a row.

weird thing about long songs - when the best songs of the year lists come out you'll usually see these on those lists. they might not even be the best songs on that album, i guess the length just makes people remember the songs more? people who aren't songwriters probably think "wow, how did they write a song like that?" when in actuality they could have just put song fragments together (like side 2 of Abbey Road).

I guess? I'd assume it was plugged into all that jazz. They stopped recording sometime after Come Clean. Certainly not the whole show.

oh, i know. i was just teasing. Very Happy I'm just wishing that she'll do the main vocals. if only for one song. i'm guessing they're gonna try but i think Eisley could really wow us with another powerhouse kick in the ears by doing so.

i'll be greatful for any new music, though.

well, i always preferred Eisley's “heavier” side! i mean, when i first got into Eisley (whenever that was) the first song i heard was Head Against The Sky, and that's what i thought all their songs sounded like! i do love their quieter side, too (well, most of the time!), but if the next album is going to have more songs like, say, Many Funerals, and less songs like, oh, Come Clean, then i'll be very happy! or, how about just more songs? i still think it's wierd that you could probably fit both of their albums on one CD!

I just checked, the total runtime between both albums is 80 minutes, that's pretty much the exact amount of CD quality audio a CD can hold.

what is weird about that?
an album in the 35-45 min range is the best.
much longer than that seems too much at a time, and less than that seems a rip off.

offhand, anyone know how long Combinations would have been if they included Marsh and Actors?

well, “wierd” might be the wrong word… i don't know… it's just than when an album runs much under 60 minutes, or so, i almost always feel like it's too short! like, uh, where's the rest of the album? but, i may very well be completely alone on that one…

I don't think I need a certain number of minutes to make an album feel complete. It's more about the number of songs and I think 11 or 12 songs is usually perfect. The Pixies never made an album over 40 mins and they made some of my favorite albums.

I also agree with the 35 min. to 45 min. range as being optimal for a CD! Much longer than that and it looses it's focus Exclamation

humbug! listening to a truly great album is like a journey into another world, and i don't want a “focused” journey — stopping off at all the major sights and getting the hell out — i want to spread out, explore, get lost, in that world, and that's why i love long albums! heck, even if Eisley's next album is 24 hours long, i'll be more than happy to spend all 24 hours getting lost in it! of course, again, i might be the only one…
