It's growing on me, it really is. "Love and Peace or Else," "A Man and a Woman," and "Original of the Species" are definitely standout tracks (and so is "Fast Cars," if you can get a hold of a copy with the bonus track). The rest ranges from mediocre to still-not-as-good-as-Achtung Baby. But the more I listen, the more I understand what U2 were trying to accomplish this time around, and the less I think they failed completely. I think a lot of the songs will be phenomenal live, even though they're lackluster on the record.

Opinions, anyone?

USA Today gave it a glowing review saying, "Atomic Bomb is U2's best album, eclipsing not only Achtung Baby and The Joshua Tree, but a good many 20th-century holy grails and prematurely anointed classics of the new millennium."

Hmmm.

The All Music Guide gave it a good review too... but not quite that good.

Was I the only one that was gonna provide detailed schematics and instruction on how to dismantle an Atomic Bomb?

wow.. why didn't they just throw in "second coming.." and "..to end all albums" while they were at it? Rolling Eyes

you can't eclipse joshua tree. that'd be like pearl jam beating ten.

and yeah, joseph, i was gonna do that. or die trying. Wink

I was mildly offended by that review. Better than Achtung Baby? Not bloody likely. The hype bandwagon rolls on, it seems.

Rolling Stone gave a fairly balanced review... They were highly enthusiastic, yet they also recognized the fact that occasionally the band's experimentation on HTDAAB fell flat on its face.

I think release date is too early to judge any album.

Beginning next March, they're doing a 35-show US tour starting in Florida. Then they'll go back to Europe for 30 shows, and then return to the US for another 35 shows before hitting Japan and Australia. Tickets go on sale in January. http://www.atu2.com is a pretty good resource for keeping track of all that.
