i have had a recent renaissance with Cake's music. i had Fashion Nugget in high school. i bought Prolonging the Magic while in college. i remember Comfort Eagle coming out and listening to it at the listening station at Hasting's thinking, "this sounds too familiar to their old stuff," so i pretty much ignored what they were doing. their new album, Pressure Chief, came out recently and my friend has been talking about them, so i got interested again. a couple of weeks ago i bought Comfort Eagle. at first i thought it was alright and i really liked the song, Meanwhile, Rick James....., but now after listening to it some more i like it. i guess i had it in the category with Weezer's Green Album, but it has a little more depth and range than that. after buying CE, i revisited a tv performance they did recently of No Phone and it just stuck in my head, so i bought Pressure Chief. it has a lot more synths. i'm thinking Cake and Grandaddy would make good touring partners. so i don't put Cake in the category of say a Radiohead, but they do have their place in my music collection. sort of fun, witty, intelligent........and great use of the Vibra Slap and quirky percussion, which i love...........and they do some really great covers

so this last week i've tried to find online communities for their fans and i had a hard time. their website is very bare, just like their artwork. anywho, i did find some sites if anyone else is interested.

I've only heard 'Fashion Nugget' and the last time I listened to that was when I was randomly popping in CDs from my Dad's album collection about 2 or 3 or 4 years ago ... I remember liking it, though.

Fashion Nugget is the one album that no matter how my musical taste has changed over the years (and these have been big changes) I always loved.

You really should check them out. Especially Fashion Nugget and Prolonging the Magic

As far as individual songs, I'd recommend:

The Distance
Frank Sinatra
I Will Survive
Sheep Go To Heaven
Never There
When You Sleep
Short Skirt/Long Jacket
How Do You Afford Your Rock'N'Roll Lifestyle

Those are all great songs.

those are pretty much all singles, right?
Meanwhile, Rick James...... is what brought me back to the band. i think it's one of their best songs. Commisioning a Symphony in C has also grown on me.

so has anyone heard MOtorcade of Generosity?

I think most of them are singles, but I also think its a good range of songs to introduce someone to the band.

i think the third verse of "wheels" is possibly some of the best lyrics ever written.
