i lvoe the ending of Wheels with the multilayered vocals.
when i hear something like that, i know Cake has a deeper album in them.
you see touches of greatness, but a lot of times they stay with their normal fair. i feel this way about Clinic and Grandaddy, too.

the 3rd song on Pressure Chief makes me think of that 80's song, I Just Died in Your Arms Tonight. i don't know if they share chords or several notes in the melody, but i can't help from thinking that. also, part of CArbon Monoxide makes me think of that song BBC from Austin Powers.

you can hear clips from Pressure Chief and hear John McCrea being interviewed.

almost 3 years.......this is bizarre.

they recently released a B-Sides and Rarities album - complete with scratch n' sniff artwork. wiki says there are five different colors with five different fragrances. i got purple/grape.
pretty cool and pretty cheap.

They're from Sacramento! Hooray?

But personally, I dislike their album artwork.. but that doesn't change my perspective on Cake. They are awesome! But not amazing... Confused

Hey, I'm pretty sure that's the same model as my car. I made a YouTube vid using their song "The Distance" a while back too. Pretty cool coincidence, well at least it is for me. I'll just believe that they happened to look up "The Distance" on YouTube, saw my vid, looked at my channel, saw my other vid of my car then decided to use my hooptie on their album cover. And also decided not to report me for using their copywritten material.

I believe that's just the same art as the Wheels EP.

Upon closer inspection it's not even a Dodge Polara, it's a Dodge Monaco. Pretty much the exact same thing except the grill and the interior though.

didn't know there was a Wheels EP. it's not listed on all music guide or wiki.

you seem Cake informed - are there still some non-live b-sides that aren't on this compilation?

Sorry, I couldn't tell you. I'm not much of a live recordings collector.
Anyway, the Wheels EP came out after Pressure Chief.

i meant, other than some live b-sides of previously released songs, are there any studio recorded b-sides that didn't make the release?

i searched for the Wheels EP earlier today - it has nothing new if you already have the albums and this new collection.

i can't get www.listentocake.com to come up. it's the only fansite that i see linked from wiki. not sure if the original links i posted even work.

Any fans of the band, Cake?

They finally announced the follow-up to 2004's Pressure Chief

Showroom of Compassion

I got out Prolonging the Magic today.
I have never been a fan of Alpha Beta Parking Lot and there is something weird about Never There going transitioning into Guitar, so I was thinking, drop ABPL altogether and switch Guitar to track 6 as so:

Prolonging the Magic revised

Side 1
1. Satan is My Motor
2. Mexico
3. Never There
4. You Turn the Screws
5. Walk on By
6. Guitar

Side 2
7. Sheep Go to Heaven
8. When You Sleep
9. Hem of Your Garment
10.Let Me Go
11.Cool Blue Reason
12.Where Would I Be?

the fade out of Never There transitions great into the beginning of Screws.
Any thoughts?

^I'll have to make a playlist of that and let you know. Did you add tracks from the Bsides record to that list? yeah, and Cool Blue Reason ended up being the single good moment of G-Funk infiltrating Alternative Rock.

Also, they are playing here December and I'm Going for sure!

no additions. it's simply the record minus Alpha Beta Parking Lot and switching track 4 to the 6th spot.

i would like to see them. their tics seem high - close to $50.

it makes me wonder since they're touring before the record comes out, will they tour again after?

Well, St. Louis is a Flyover City in a Flyover State, we don't always get routed, which makes me think that either this is the Big album release tour, since they don't tour much anyways, or they are going to really work this on the road to try and build a draw for a bigger tour later. I'm going with the prior concept because there aren't many rooms they can play for a band with their following size in St. Louis before you start booking arenas, which I doubt they will around here unless they play at a college for homecoming of a spring festival.

Beyond that, tickets here are $25 so looks like EVERYTHING is bigger in TX, including prices Razz
