First off: on a scale of no good to so good, this album is SOOO GOOD! But now to the dilemma. I know someone who would absolutely love Room Noises and has never heard of Eisley before, and I'd really like to give them a copy... but I (literally) had to scrape my change together to buy my own copy. And I don't really want to burn her a copy, but..... argh. What should I do?? |

Well...is letting this friend borrow it for a while out of the question? 'Cause there's nothing wrong with that, assuming friend doesn't rip the album and keep the songs. Likewise, there's nothing inherently wrong with burning a copy of an album you own. The problem would be the friend keeping the burned copy or, again, ripping those songs onto the computer. |

Pirates?! Ahoy matey! Tis the salt of the sea, says I. Arrr! Me parrot on me shoulder says pirates will send the scurvy music industry to Davy Jones locker. Personally I be preferrin' iTunes matey. No sense in wastin' yer booty payin' fer 3 singles an' a mess of filler tracks. Tis true says I. |

I make samplers. because they know I am weird about it and will tell me they wont copy it, but when I visit every CD I own is on the harddrive, and surprise: only 3 non burned CDs in their collections. _________________

iTunes only gives the artists about 3 or 4 cents per song. It's not much better money-wise than buying a real album, plus you don't get the album artwork (which isn't as good as vinyl artwork... it's too small), and the quality of the track isn't as good because it's in a compressed format which gets rid of the higher and lower frequencies to make the file smaller, but most people probably wouldn't notice the difference anyway. I love the program iTunes but I didn't find a reason to use the music store untill I found out that 'Vintage People' was available on it. Also, you can't buy all the tracks from albums. For example, I was looking at all the Jimi Hendrix albums iTunes had, and I noticed you couldn't buy two of the songs of Electric Ladyland. I'm glad I have the cd. Anyways... I think that the percentages artists receive of the music they sell should be much larger. I guess the whole business aspect just bugs me. Too many people getting paid for art the musicians created. Cheers. _________________ HST - RIP "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." - Jimi Hendrix "You may say I'm a Dreamer, but I'm not the only one." -John Lennon |

I buy CDs when I'm able -- but when I just can't afford it, I download. But I (usually) don't download an album in its entirety unless the band/artist is rich or dead The way I see it, no one benefits by my not downloading. Either the artist gets their music heard or they don't; and if I do hear it, there's an obviously greater chance of me buying an album of theirs later on. Also, one problem with calling it "stealing" is that in the traditional sense of the word, the person being stolen from has something taken away from them. Not the case with music, because it can be infinitely reproduced for free and without loss of quality thanks to the internet. |

Your friend hasn't heard Eisley before? Then go the the music section of this website or on EMerge and burn those mp3s, being free to anybody that signs up, for your friend. If your friend cannot make up his or her mind from that selection then I'd say you've done your job and it's in their hands after that. As for being a pirate... I download albums, but then I buy them if I listen to it more than once. Proof? I own over 800+ albums and I delete 99% of the music on my computer that I didn't pay for or wasn't free, the exception being a handful of obscure singles by bands that I know I wouldn't enjoy the whole album. If you like something, buy it. CDs sound better than mp3s and even though artists don't get much money for cds, shouldn't they get something? (p.s. this is a rhetorical question, I don't really care about your opinion on the matter |
