The concert last night at Trees was INCREDIBLE! The very last song you played, "Wings and Windows", was very beautiful and sad.....i hope to hear it again someday!
I found the lyrics on your website:
"I left the window up, I let your bird go, I was the one who let him escape.
I left the window up, I let your friend go
and you won't believe that I am sorry"......

My question is, was this song written about something that really happened?
Did somebody really let someone's bird go ?? Tell us the story behind it!
Or is it not really about a bird?
Thank you......you are the BEST band and i will buy all your CD's and tell everyone about you!

the song is about a bird...a bird escaping...out a window...becaues i let it out....but not for real, it just made a good story to think that i would let someones bird go and they would get mad at me for it. Rolling Eyes

Sherri is mixing it up...messing with us. Perhaps it's about the a bird in a cage (raised eyebrow) but what do you do with, "Right before he went he said he wanted happiness, I said don't look to far...but that's not really good enough for you." (?) How more metaphoric can it be (seem)? Raising a window and purposely unleashing one's most (aparent) valuable possession? It's saturated with meaning beyond the literal! A pre-calculated plan resulting in an escape...freedom from captivity....doing what's best for someone you love even though they resent it... Apologizing for doing something you willfully did. Oh, yes; I believe she's messing with us, indeed.

In the end, I guess we interpret art based on our own experiences and find our own meaning. Still...I've been in the creative industry for decades; long enough to know that at the base of every song....every creation, every communication, there's an inspiration; a stimulus, a feeling... an impetus..a cause and effect...a reason; So, it's my opinion that Sherri was drawing from some sublime reality, though in her mind it might have just been an imaginative little story.

I might be wrong. It really doesn't matter. I've pondered this lyric at many shows...and have been captivated by the music. hmmm...maybe she was under some guilt complex...maybe it found residence in her lyrics. But again, that would prove my point.

I'm in too deep. I've said too much....I haven't said enough.

boyd, that's exactly how i've always understood it...and this past weekend, i took on a whole new perspective. i approached my one of my best friend's parents and told them a fraction of the trouble their son has been getting himself into...i feel lousy about it still, and he's quite angry with me, but i did it out of love for him + his family. it needed to be done. =/

in a way, i was 'letting his bird go...' or letting his secret out, giving him freedom from all the junk he's been trapped in unknowingly. With tears in my eyes, I apologized to him not for what I did but..for not doing it sooner, and for the consequences he's about to deal with.

yeah.
