I work for Continued Studies at my college as a lab tech. Basically it's like non-credit computer classes. Tonights class is a very small MS Project class (like 3 students), and they were in the middle of doing evaluations I guess, so the teacher who I have a little rapport with comes back and says "what are you looking at? show me something good!" like, whatever website I'm looking at. Of course it was this, so I said "uh, this bands forum?" so he starts asking me what they sound like. He's not getting any band name comparisons since he doesn't know the bands (heh) and when I said "rock, but with some piano.." he goes down the tangent of jazz, so he wasn't getting it. [sidenote: I'm not good at describing music generally] I told him if I had headphones I'd let him listen to some of it, or - jokingly - I could play it over the speakers in the classroom from the front computer [something I do myself when cleaning up, usually] He's like "go for it, fire it up." which was just funny to me because I guess he was really interested in finding out what they sound like. So I played him "I wasn't prepared" off the recordcollection site. I think he liked it.. halfway through he was like "you know who they remind me of? You're going to hate me... The Dixie Chicks" and he qualified that by saying "just in the voices, not the music" (duh). I have no clue since I don't think I've ever heard them Dixie Chicks, nor do I care to. To his credit, he did also comment he could notice some Pink Floyd influence, which isn't as out there as the Dixie Chicks comment. Of all people I never thought I'd be playing Eisley for an instructor in his 30s here at work.

Well given this guys age and his own admission - lack of music knowledge - he might not even have been familiar with the Cranberries. i think eisley is kinda like Frank Sinatra... i mean. they are both good. and i like listening to both of them... and uh... they both have words and music. |
