I posted this on the Coldplay Tour area too....just because I know a bunch of you have abandon this section temporarily. You can comment at either place. Thanks. Boyd

I added a blurb later on this post to yak about radio and how it works in case anyone is interested.

Radio Test Market for Eisley

OK!. OK!!Many have been fussing at me for not making this more clear: We sent out an eblast with this info...but I danced around it: basically, Eisley's is being played on the big rock station in Dallas. It's a TEST MARKET effort by a few DJ's who believe in them...namely Josh! After the test market is over in a few weeks, they'll either drop it or play it some more...It's all based on listener response. Makes no difference whether you're from Dallas or New York, really. It's a call. Remember, we're central time zone.

214 or 817 787-1102
That's the request line for The Edge - 102.1
Telescope Eyes. That's the one they're playing) Thanks.

NOTE:I'm not really in to this whole militant deal to try to make the band happen or whatever. Of course, it's true that LABEL's really look at radio to determine how much they'll push you; If you guys love Eisley...their music, this could probably a huge impact on their future... But only do it if you really feel...i dunno, compelled. Whatever. Nobody in the band into success, or fame or money... honestly, statistically, most bands don't make it at all much less get past their first record before being dropped by their label. A few people have said, "eisley needs a "creep" in their early years" like another favorite band of ours. Where would Radiohead be without it? dunno. Even though the band isn't crazy about Telescope Eyes anymore...simply because it's one of those they wrote so long ago, radio is wanting to embrace it. I know some older fans in Dallas might be tired of the tune also. But you're a small group of friends. Eisley isn't very huge. Nobody in radioland knows of them yet. That's all. Thanks. Boyd

Also, Josh (from the Edge) said we should feel free to bombard the DJ's with eisley email requests for T.E. also. I guess you should make it simple, short, very clear. (if you are willing) Here are the time slots and the DJ's:

I emailed a few of them during the past week and got good responce back, so I thought I'd email a few more this morning. After doing so I get back an auto email saying they are on vacation for the next TWO weeks!...grrr.
Hope them being gone doesn't mess up Eisley's chances for radio play. Anyone know who is filling in for the morning show and for Jessie (afternoon drive time dj)?
If so, post it and I'll pelt them with emails...

I have emailed KDGE a couple of times even though I live in Utah and just this morning my sister who lives in Texas said they played an Eisley song on the radio last night. Still trying to work on local radio here.

I emailed them all, and I heard Over The Mountains We Go on Adventure Club a few months ago. That's my favorite song by them.

Yeah, I've been hearing Telescope Eyes from the EP some on The Edge. I've been hearing them on the adventure club for a long time now but it's so cool to have my friends who don't even really listen to stuff like that tell me they heard Eisley on the radio!

[Radio Stars]

I'm writing this blog just in case some of you don't really understand how
radio works; this does relate to Eisley's unfolding Radio presence. (or
unfolding opportunity) btw...most of you are probably more knowledgeable
about "Radio" than I. Feel free to join in and give clarity or correction. I
have lots of ideas and personal attitude about radio...but, here's the
basics: (we should start a discussion. I would SO like that)

Typically, labels like WB, Sony, Epic, Arista, Universal, IDJ, Capitol, etc.
"service" (send, deliver, talk it up, etc.) the radio stations with a CD from
their band. Labels get thousands. When a label is super hot over a band
and feel like radio is going to be the top priority (marketing plan), they
make contributions to the station...you know, like for giveaways, and
stuff...(and Cruises..…Smile As crazy as it seems, it's legal for now)
Anyway, the higher the dollar figure (ongoing), the more spins the song gets.
(ahhhh!!!) Basically, yes...dollars and cents determine the songs you
get to hear. (silent scream)

But let's back it down...way down to Eisley's level. There's been no effort
from WB to push Eisley as a radio band. This has all occured through the
most natural avenue possible: a SPECIALTY PROGRAM like The Adventure
Club plays the song because either. a.) he likes it (yeah, Josh) or b.) the
band is getting so much local press, attention/fans, the DJ will try to echo
that sentiment. I guess both are happening right now. We're finding out
that there are other markets in the US who have their "Josh's" and
specialty programs that are also playing Eisley's song.

In fact, Dave told us that KROQ - the biggest rock station in LA played T.E.
the other day at around 4:00 in the afternoon. I don't know what that
means of what the outcome is.

So, again...Radio spin discs based on requests.... if they get a healthy
response, they play the song and rotation gets bumped up to the next
level. It's a numbers game. When songs make it to the next level, other
radio stations want to get in on what's happening.....(smaller formats play
off larger ones...and often, they're Clear Channel stations anyway. So,
they start to play a song, and satelite stations and sister stations in other
markets jump on board....and before long, well.....I guess at that point, I
dunno...maybe the label starts to "push" - adding to the momentum.
There is the potential for the industry to start rating the song; like #60 or
whatever; or lower...or higher as it's requested and or funded by the label.

And if everything continues to move upward...or forward,....well, a band
like Eisley could have a hit...like, their "Creep", or a "Yellow"....(far
fetched, I know...)

Eisley is by no means writing radio songs. They just write songs. Radio can
embrace those songs or not. WB see's Eisley as unique and wants to
protect the integrity of what is special or "magical" about the band. That's
been communicated over and over and over again. Also, so you know...
nobody from our camp thinks Telescope Eyes will be some big hit or
anything. I'm just using the current situation as a model.

RadioHead doesn't write for radio and they've only had one hit. ("Creep".
wait...was "Green Plastic Tree's" a hit too? I think so) That's an enviable
place to be in. Coldplay has even more grace....they're writing great songs
and that radio is embracing and they'll probably have tons of hits. Smile If a
band like Eisley had a "hit"...it could take off the pressure and give them
tons of freedom to be exactly who they are...and write the kind of songs
they like.... for a long, long time. That's where I'll end this. And
remember....."This....is my Xanga".

(hi. today I woke up after staying up till 5:00am talking to friend Taylor
Muse...from the Connnotations, who are coming here to open the
BrewTones show and rock your world. Collin is upstairs playing drums. I
need coffee and look terrible. What day is it?)

I was working in the yard today and had the radio on, so I thought I'd send an email request to the Edge for TE. About 20 minutes later they played it! - amazing.
The DJ at the time was Ayo, and when the song ended he said he was "absolutely smitten" with Eisley. He went on to plug the EP and mention the upcoming big, all-star Buzzoven show at the Bronco Bowl. He said that Eisley was going to be playing that show, but I thought Eisley was going to be out of town/the country at that time.
Does the DJ have bad information or is Eisley playing that big shindig?
Please straighten me out...

P.
