I was listening to Smoosh the other day, and, of course, the Eisley comparison I made earlier came up. You know, Eisley could have been Smoosh....promoted as little kids making music way back in 1998 or 2000 even...and they could have had a hit based upon that novelty...but if such things had happened, we probably wouldn't be here in 2005 talking about them. I look at Smoosh, and really, I bet they'll be forgotten in a year's time. Their music has potential, that's for sure...but, really, who's going to wait around for them to get their potential? That whole potential thing is a double-edged sword, though, isn't it?

I know that delays and waiting and waiting and waiting and all of those frustrations for the past seven years were annoying for everyone involved, for fans and for the band, but at the end of the day, it really worked out for the best for Eisley. I mean, to paraphrase a review I saw of Room Noises, Eisley could have been a marketing director's dream...family act, young kids making music, wholesome family values, etc...it could have sold millions of records....once. I'd rather Eisley take off slow and then move on to higher heights and greater things than for them to go for the one-time-only ring of superstardom and then forgotten about as quickly as they've appeared.

I guess I'm a good case in point for the dangers of image. Maybe because I'm older and more used to seeing music trends and tendencies, I was a bit more skeptical of Eisley when I first heard them. And yeah, it's hard not to think that way when you look on the surface of the band, espeically when dealing with those EP's. It seemed to be Eisley's image at the time (and to a certain extent, the way the band first came across, the image of the band as siblings/east Texas thing was being pushed a little too hard) and I'm happy to see them distancing from it. Obviously you can't escape the family connection...but all of those other things that you might have heard about (play at church, home schooled, small-town nowheresville) that added to the curiosity factor to the band...it's good to see the world not focusing on that as much. Room Noises helped a great deal, too...and I just think of those two girls in Smoosh, how their childhood in public is really going to define them and will eventually (most likely) Smoosh them...and I'm glad Eisley escaped that...

I dunno why I shared that, I guess it just came to me today...and i just felt like rambling.

I agree.

Because I think that this world and me too sometimes, are way too obsessed with image and such. It is smart to take things day by day with a career, because you are right, they could have sold out and made millions but for a onetime thing.

Although, and if I may add, I definately think it is just wonderful that they are siblings and friends, the fact I don't like to call them "wholesome" because Britney Spears was that and so was the Partrige family, and they fell apart and turned around and just I don't know about the partriage family all to well, but Britney spears did mess it up and lost a lot of respect, atleast from me.

so sorry it's long.

fact is I agree. I like to describe their music as their art and their job, and it's beautiful and full of awesomeness. I guess I'm just saying what you're saying once again

You have to hook up with the right people, not the people who would make a novelty out of you simply to cash in on age. The music business is hard to figure out---look at the band justincase. They got signed to a major label, recorded with John Shanks, and as soon as the album came out, all the promo people at Maverick sort of went like, see yaaaaaaaaaaaaa. It was crazy. They started a street team, had all these plans for them, and justincase did one tour, with Nick Carter, of all people. justincase and Nick Carter? Come on! Night and day difference! And they never did any promos, no press or interviews, nothing. I heard them on Open House Party, that was it. Then the record company said this isn't working out. Good bye. So they sort of went on a college tour with some other bands but I think they financed that themselves. Now they've all gone to college. I loved their music so much though. And I really hope they keep playing.

this is possibly one of the best posts i've ever come across. It simply is amazing.

Thankyou.

However, I will say that some reviews note that Eisley started off as a novelty. That said, it was mostly because of their age. As were Hanson. There was a thread a wee while back about the similarities between Eisley and Hanson, which made for an interesting read. I think that Hanson were a novelty. I was suprised to find that they're still playing, actually.

It's better to start small and grow big, rather than to start big and evaporate into thin air.

EDIT: thought of ABBA, (Partly 'cs the Bosnian entry to Eurovision (on now! Very Happy) is, says Terry Wogan, an Abba tribute. My line of thought is that Abba made it big really because of Eurovision, and to some extent remain big today. I suppose you could say they were a novelty - eurovision has that tendency. Oh, and btw, the bosnian entry is pants, although they do have a 16 to 1 chance of winning.... My point is that sometimes big hits can make a band bigger, it doesn't nesecarily mean they will be forgotten quickly.
