So I called my friend Lea tonight. (We both have Verizon Wireless.) It rang once, then a lady's voice said, "Please enjoy this music while we connect your call" or something like that and all of a sudden I hear "and sleep tight my baaaaaaa-byyyyyy, morning light..." and then her voicemail.

Weird. And cool. But weird.

Allie

verizon wireless offers a service now called "ringback tones" where you can purchase tones for a fee and have them play when someone calls instead of the standard ringing noise...

i believe you can check it out at...

www.verizonwireless.com/ringback

yeah, my friend had "baby got back" play when i called him. but there wasn't a voice saying "enjoy this music while you're on hold" - i didn't know that hold music was part of the service.

But it was the real song, not a ringtone. I have yet to get in touch with her to ask her if she requested this feature on her phone.

Ringback tones aren't the same as ringtones. They're the actual songs played to the people who are calling instead of the generic "this person's phone is ringing" sound.

It's a nice surprise sometimes. I don't have Verizon, so I can't use it yet, but I'm looking forward to when it's more common.

And when it comes to ringtones, I have a real music ringtone (click "ringtones" above to find 'em) of "I Wasn't Prepared," and it's lovely.

Or a little Brahms, Beethoven, or Bach?

Baby Got Bach. Wink
