I vote catchy... easier to get into and much fun to listen to, which is why I pretty much compare all cd's I buy this year to Copeland's "In Motion" which has to be a collection of the catchiest songs I've ever heard, and they have the tendency to get stuck in my head from the moment I wake up to when I go to sleep. Eisley also has tons of catchy elements, I mean Golly Sandra is easily their catchiest song.

It depends what mood I'm in. Sometimes I just want to buy a CD and automatically enjoy it. I don't want to have to guess or listen to it 5 times, I want to automatically hear it and say, "This is fun"

But it's always a nice surprise when you buy a CD and don't care for it, bt after a few listens it becomes one of your favorites.

subtle.
I had to wait for Radiohead.
It needed a few full spins.

i voted catchy. and it's very possible for a sad, slow song to be melodic.

Depends entirely on the mood that I am in at the moment. Although I tend to choose subtle more often.

A good song is subtly catchy. But catchy is more important.

heck yes.

It depends... Usually I prefer subtle, because it means that the album will be listened to more often and then it was worth it, take any Radiohead CD. However, a catchy band, such as Hot Hot Heat, I will only listen to when I want an instant "pick-me-up: I'm going out" effect.

I think I agree with this.
I love subtle songs that might take a few listens for you to really realize their genius.
But I also love catchy songs, that are easy to sing and instantly enjoyable.
Some songs are catchy but over-done. Like something you have heard a thousand times.

A really good song is subtly catchy.
