They go BACK to LA to record "My Lovely, Brightly Wound, Lost at Sea" at least I think it might be those 3...perhaps the best 2, not sure...with Rob Cavallo. Not sure if you guys know of Rob; Eisley has worked with him before. He's a tycoon. I mean, Fleetwood Mac and other huge bands. I'll have to look up his discography later. Anyway, He loves their music and has wanted the chance to work with them since they did 6 demo songs with him last summer [2003]. It seems like a good match.

Which 6 songs were these? I'm assuming they were the unreleased tracks that everyone's gotten from OGG, but I'd like to hear it first hand/know for certain...

Anyone have any clue?

I just spent some time digging about. Found this.

From Trolleywood (July 28, 2003), production in LA:

It's about 11:00pm and the band has been tracking songs - one after
another all night. Well, mainly for the drums, but they grab everything
just in case it works. Here are the songs in order that they recorded
tonight:

Marvy Things
They All Surrounded Me
Sea King
Sun Feet
Musical Seeds
Trolley Wood

This doesn't mean all of these songs will get produced and mixed
between now and Friday, but...Rob is trying to get as much down as fast
as possible. Sun Feet, Musical Seeds, Sea King were basically one take.
The first two were two... Trolley Wood is more like a loop. They're
creating a loop from our snaps and claps. (yes, that's right...I am ON the
record...hah haH....so there) Stacy and Sherri just got through recording
their vocals...a few takes. I'm sure there will be more, I dunno.
I dropped jelly beans out of my t-shirt pocket 2 times and was
embarrassed as I scrambled to pick them up.

Now they're talking about tracking "Wings and Windows" - which all these
guys really seem to like. Other songs that were played live today and
recorded just to hear them are: on that

Brightly Wound
Silver Bugs
Wings and Windows
The Winter Song
Lullaby
Golly Sandra
Queen of Leaves

(for a total of 14 songs)

So...14 songs. I'll keep digging. Thanks for joining me on this little adventure, if you are. Maybe I can work it out. Wink

h'Okay. So.

Within the next few months (Aug.-Oct. '03), they recorded some tracks at Rosewood in Tyler and then with Aaron Sprinkle in Seattle. We know that these ended up being the tracks whose final resting place was the Marvelous Things EP. Still, so many songs are mentioned (Boyd returning to that list of "14" every so often).

So, my question becomes a bit more concentrated:
What were those 6 songs that were produced by Rob C. in LA, and what was done with them? Did one or two of them end up on the Marvelous Things disc? If not, why would Eisley have made the trip to LA to begin with? There must have been more of a purpose than to fiddle around with different producers and studios.

It's not that important, but I think my curiosity's getting the better of me.

(edit: this is my 200th post. huzzah.)

HA! So Wings and Windows, eh? I bet Boyd has a copy of that buried somewhere. Someone should tie him to a chair and force him to post it. Or suffer the consquences. Twisted Evil

Those sound like the six songs. From the way Boyd was writing, it sounded like they were just tracking demos. Maybe the whole thing fell through, and they ended up going to Aaron Sprinkle.

Hopefully everybody knows that "Musical Seeds" is "Memories."

I don't think the demos are (legally) available anywhere.

It's not about me wanting to get my hands on them as much as it is me just liking to know where/when their songs were actually recorded. I never expect/expected Boyd to atually post any music here...

I think it was the six songs in bold. That must be it.

Yes, there are a few songs that aren't on any song archives or anything, just buried in Boyd's journels (I am thinking there were some other ones too, but I am too lazy to look now)
