Water closet.

It's the term most European countries use in place of "public restroom".

Isn't a water closet a home bathroom? The term came from the idea of having running water in your house around the turn of the last century, correct?

wrong, correct.

we use "bog" "loo" "toilet" and "W.C", but you rarely see "W.C" these days.

The term did come from that, boone. Says my other half! Very Happy

heh I just realised we Dutch people often use the term WC. Speaking term that is. It's more difficult to pronounce it in English than in Dutch. dubble U See.. That would be plain annoying. In Dutch we would pronounce it as WaySay. We would pronounce the word toilet as the French would pronouce it :S twahlet -_- Which to me sounds annoying. Who wants to be bothered with pronunciation when one needs to go the toilet anyway? Razz

I have no idea why pronunciation matters. For me, it doesn't.

I know that I do say "excuse me" in French rather than english. It feels more natural. And at least I'm asking people to move. These days you get a gruff "oit" and a shuv. If you get the "oi" at all. I also say (don't know how to spell it, so I'm putting it in pronunciation language thing) O ni va when I'm in a group that needs to get going to some place. my mate told me it's the wrong phrase.

Back to the bog.

nicest loo I've been in? dunno. why do I need to know?
