Based entirely on the stories themselves, LotR wins out.

I like the Chronicles of Narnia better only because I've only seen half of a LotR movie and haven't read any of the books .. so really I'm not a very good judge.

Books- good
Movies- good

LOTR is quite difficult to read, but it is the better out of the two....
I still adore The Chronicles deeply...
