I grew up hearing the term "redneck" used with pride, but apparently, not everyone feels the same.

Still proud to call myself a redneck, though!

it's pronounced "chasdew"

i've grown up hearing it both as a negative and positive term. I went to hs out in the country where everyone called themselves rednecks. To them a redneck was someone deeply attached to family, blue collar, and the "simple country life". When i moved away and went to college people looked down on rednecks as racist, backwards types. I've certainly met my fair share from both perspectives.

You know you're a redneck when your family tree has no branches.

Redneck is one of those words with multiple uses. That and "hick." I think it's funny when used lightheartedly, and offensive when used with contempt. But that depends on the connotation, and the connotation is the only thing I find offensive.

Being from Texas, a lot of people would call me a hick and/or a redneck. Though I'm far from most definitions of either.
