Here's the problem: I want to drop this course... Buisness and society (a social science course), I got 64 for the first part of my essay, and i got 42 for the midterm... i don't think i will pass the course.. the thing is that I paid 1513.44 for the course (it's 9 credits) and none of it will be refunded... the last day to drop without receiving a grade is Feb. 2... and the second part of my essay is due tomorrow... i haven't started... do you think i should drop the course? the 1513.44 doesn't include the course kit and the text... >.< I need a Social Science course, it doesn't have to be this one... I can take another one next year... What are your thoughts? Any advice is welcomed! Thank you in advance. |

If you are fairly certain you will not pass, take the loss and drop the course. You will be kicking yourself if you go all the way, get the 0.0 factored into your GPA, and still are out the money (having to retake the course). If you can save your GPA with a drop, I think you should. First, what is your GPA now? Second, is a D 70 or 60 for this course? If 60, maybe buckle down and get the D and get it over with (unless your GPA is otherwise outstanding). Of course if you are a grad student or want to be one day, drop! |

Your GPA is worth more than the money in the long run (though that is a huge amount to pay for a single class). _________________ INTELLECT AND ROMANCE OVER BRUTE FORCE AND CYNICISM Smokemonster |

Thank you for the replies. I will think about it some more... but I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up dropping it... I like how my thread got 2 replies and 4 votes... while the "i've got some q's" one had more replies... I am not liked... *sob* _________________ - Heather ^^ |

i would say if you really think that you can do better by picking up a new course next year and still get the credits (or whatever not entirely sure how its run over in the US) then dont be worried to drop the course.. tho im a university dropout with no qualifications so i'm not sure im the right person to say EDIT : dyslexia is great, i just noticed the thread says "school related" not "school retarded" what i thought, wondered why that sounded funny to me _________________ flickr.com/notathome smile |

You paid all that money, you might as well work a bit harder and try and pass (even barely). If you need that credit, why wait til next year to take another and spend that much money again and risk failing again? Stick with it and just work harder. Try and get all the help you can get on the subject. Good luck. _________________ Be happy, be contagious. |

And as far as your GPA being more important than $1500... that really depends. It's not always that simple. I don't know enough about you and your financial situation... or your career prospects... your study habits... etc... to say for sure what you should do. I just know that I couldn't afford to lose out on $1500 when I was in college. Of course, I also knew that I wasn't going to medical school or anything... which might require a good GPA. Did you do the second part of the essay after all? If you do poorly... maybe then you should consider dropping (assuming you get your grade back before the 2nd). _________________ "If you're a ninja, every day is like friday." -Jamie M. |
