So I went to the Cincinnati show on Wednesday. I met up with some friends about 40 minutes from the venue, and we all car pooled to the show. When we came back and were saying our goodbyes, I mentioned how the Marvelous Things EP sounded phenomenal. I had just bought my copy that night, which I had eagerly been waiting to hear, so naturally I listened to it on our drive back, and commented on it's awesomeness. My friend Mark was surprised, he was like "you listened to Eisley on the way back from the show??" I said, "Yeah.. ?" kind of wondering why he was so surprised. I had said something else earlier, I believe, mentioning we had listened to the Laughing City EP on the way there. So he says something about I didn't break just one rule, but two rules.. the rules being "you don't listen to the band you're going to see, on the way to the concert" and "you don't listen to the band you're going to see, on the way back from the concert". Heh, these were news to me. I just like to refresh my memory of the songs (especially if they're great), and that way sing along and enjoy the show even more. I can somewhat see his point, and it was mostly an unofficial semi-joking thing, but I don't think I had heard of this before. A couple friends since then confirmed the "rules". But do the "rules" count when it's EISLEY? Truly amazing, gifted friends? C'mon. Of course I was going to listen to Marvelous Things as soon as I could after getting it. _________________ "The revolution starts today, not tomorrow." :: got g-Love? |

I have no clue, really.. perhaps to savor the concert experience more. *shrug* I actually told them that it sounded like some indie-snob rule. _________________ "The revolution starts today, not tomorrow." :: got g-Love? |

Shouldn't we all be about "breaking the rules of cool" anyway? We listened to Radiohead all the way there, and I don't remember what we did on the way home. I think we just talked about how awesome each part of the show was. But, still...never heard of those rules. |

On friday night me and my friends rolled up to the Anybodys Fault, Nounhole & Burn Season concert blaring Burn Season's music! I run their street team, and I wanted the fans to know what was up! When we rode by, fans lined up against the wall were shouting the lyrics and throwing up their fist in a fit of excitement and inner rage to take out in the pit while the music flowed through them and pleased their need for more. The only rule, is there are no rules Mikey |

Eh, I disagree with "rules for concerts." I've been to a lot, mostly local shows, and there are just "tips" so people won't mutter "idiot" behind your back. Like wearing a t-shirt of the band you're going to see. ^_^ That's sooooo 1991. heh But what the hell, like I had a marathon of Phantom Planet music before I left for a Phantom Planet show, and then I put Phantom Planet music in when I went there, and put Phantom Planet music in when I was going home. I did the same for Eisley and all the other bands. Eh, no matter what band it is, I'll never get sick of them because of one whole day. _________________ "What's with these homies dissing my girl?" - Weezer "I think I know I mean a yes but it's all wrong, that is I think I disagree." - Beatles My Livejournal |

I like listening to the band I'm going to see if I haven't memorized their body of work. I didn't get to listen to Eisley in the car before I saw them, but that was because a messed up CD player. On the way from, I remember hearing the Beach Boys ... I don't like to listen to the band following the show a lot, mainly so I can kind of preserve my memory of how the band sounded. Something like that ... About the band shirts, I felt goofy meeting Eisley in my Eisley shirt (so much that I zipped my jacket up to where you couldn't see the logo), but I wore it to show support for them where there wasn't a whole lot. And dang it, it's a cool shirt. _________________ My photography:www.jamiemphoto.com You can't spell awesome without emo...backwards! -Julie definingawesome (11:44:11 PM): Eisley shivers our timbers |

the rules are stupid. i listened to ani difranco on the way to radiohead in camden...well, about half way there (an hour or so into our drive) tash goes "ok. no more ani. we need some ok computer" i've never worn a band's shirt to a show tho...that just seems overkill. i mean, yea i love radiohead more than any other band, but i'm not wearing my minotaur sweatshirt to the show. eh. i guess its everyone's opinion. just listen to the music, watch the show. who cares what youre wearing or listening to afterword eh? _________________ knives don't have your back. |

Yeah, those are long-standing rules of concert-going. For me, listening to a band on the way to seeing them sort of reduces the freshness value of seeing them live a bit. I tend to listen to the band in the weeks before the show and then listen to other stuff on the way there and back. Wearing a shirt of the band to its show just looks kind of dorky, more than anything. Ultimately, who cares? There are more important codes to follow than the laws of concert going. _________________ My epitaph, should I ever need one, God forbid: 'The only proof he ever needed of the existence of God was music.' -Kurt Vonnegut "...dance when you forget to wear pants..." -Seanbaby |

I know the rules. And abide by them. No band back is the rule from what I know. You can rock it there to get pumped up. That is in the rules. DO NOT WEAR THE BANDS SHIRT TO THE SHOW!!!! JUST FREAKIN DONT!!!! That is THE BIGGEST RULE!!! Do not break it. EVER. |

those rules are the suck... i always listen to the band on the way there... and many times on the way back. though i can see why not listening to them on the way back is good for you. i do like the "don't wear the band's t-shirt" rule... unless maybe you buy one when you are there and you put it on afterwards when your original t-shirt is all sweaty and gross... i do that alot... because i get sweaty and gross at concerts and that is something that i dislike greatly... but really guys honestly aren't these rules really more like guidelines?? i mean who makes these rules? who enforeces them? what are the punishments for not abiding by them and by what authority does this punishment get invoked? this raises philisophical questions... |
