You stopped talking to a guy because his friend burned him a CD? That seems pretty silly. _________________ EvilSpace |

My friends and I all share music....we're all broke college students. With that said, music not given to me by friends is bought. With Eisley - I think it's ok for friends to share it, especially being relatively new and small - it's good to get the name out there. Don't worry - I bought the pre-order CD/DVD and bought it off itunes. So it atleast cancels out this one case, lol. _________________ Life is funny, but not ha ha funny - Eels |

I see both sides of the argument, but I wouldn't stop talking to someone because their friend is apparently trying to turn them onto Eisley. This person may have never heard of Eisley before and the friend was making the copy to say, check this out or whatever. But of course that violates the rights that WB and the band have to the music. But all the same, they may get a fan who will buy some in the future. Have you never received a bootleg copy, be it a CD burn, digital download, or even cassette copy, that was a bootleg? |

its a very noble thing to want to make sure eisley gets their share, but unforunately you're going to end up not talking to gillllllllllions of people. this spans all bands in the entire music industry. it just happens. my boyfriend used to own a record store and gave me free cd's almost daily. im glad my friends didnt stop talking to me. |

I would never had bought a Modest Mouse CD if a friend hadn't burnt me a copy of The Lonesome Crowded West years ago. I really can't see the problem with it. _________________ EvilSpace |

You have your own set of morals and that's commendable that you live up to them. That's all that really needs to be said about that. But I personally believe it's a good thing for people to pass around music, even if people didn't pay for it simply because it does promote bands that otherwise may not get noticed. However, I understand a lot of people disagree with it. I'm not talking about taking music of bands you enjoy though. I'm only referring to music you had no idea about because someone gave it to you to turn you onto it. Burning a CD for a friend is not stealing; it's evangelism. When I buy an album, I have the right to do with it as I will, and that includes putting it on my computer or iPod, making backup copies, and giving it to my friends. If I'm wild about a band I will try to convert my friends too, and I do that by giving them that band's music. I've done it with Kent, Eisley, and the Envy Corps. I will do it with many more. By that token, accepting a CD someone burned for you is even less of a crime. When that guy heard Combinations and decided he liked Eisley, he magically transformed into a fan who has the potential to support them in the future, not only by buying CDs (by the way, Eisley haven't made a penny off of CD sales yet) but also by going to shows and getting merchandise. That one free CD opened up countless possibilities for future monetary support that would not have been there if he didn't hear the album first. So really, refusing to talk to him because he hasn't bought the album yet is fairly silly. Combinations has only been out for two days, after all. It probably would have been better to encourage him to buy it now that he knows he likes the band rather than just stop talking to him. _________________ INTELLECT AND ROMANCE OVER BRUTE FORCE AND CYNICISM Smokemonster |
