Montage of Heck - It struck some nerves, but was more about creating understanding than grief.

Life Itself - I cried quite a lot during the last third of the film. It may not resonate a much for those of you that are pretty young, but for any of you who were at least approaching your teens towards the end of the 90s, and were remotely aware of Siskel & Ebert, and got to watch their show or talk show appearances etc, it will break your heart in the proper manner a heart should be broken.

I liked Inception a lot when I saw it in the theater. I later bought the DVD for $5 because it also came with movie money. Still haven't watched it a 2nd time for some reason.

Dr. Strange - Well done, nothing mind altering.

Arrival - Well done, nothing mind altering. Also, do not see if feeling in any way sleepy.

I hear ya. This year has had a lot of good, solid above average movies, but nothing much that really just blows me away.

Most (all?) of my favorite directors didn't put out anything this year.
Most don't even seem to have anything in the works that have been announced.
I think Scorsese has one soon, but I have no idea if it will go wide.
I am hype for Rogue One, no doubt.

I saw The Arrival and Fantastic Beasts.

These days I get most of my movie info from youtube via Morning Movie News. I don't agree with every take she has on things, but usually it's good information and insight about things going on in film.

https://www.youtube.com/user/BeyondTheTrailer/featured

Tends to be a taciturn and gloomy time of year in the midwest, so when the movies match up with the weather around this time of year it's incentive to stay home. Rogue One's second trailer got me amped up for it in a way I wasn't before, outside of the goofy inspirational speech parts. Hopefully it delivers on its potential.

The downside is that the potential of new characters makes me less excited for them doing movies about younger versions of old characters like Han Solo or Yoda. I'm 100% for moving forward with the narrative or taking it to altogether unfamiliar places with unfamiliar faces.

Been visiting my mom and she's been on a movie kick, picking movies based on little more than the lead actor on the promo art. The result:

Keanufest:

The Whole Truth Cool Do you even act bro? Credit to Renee Zellweger & Gabriel Basso bringing the chops.

Exposed Smile Again, I ask... ^ This one fell squarely on the shoulders of Ana De Armas and Gabriel Vargas, in spite of studio interference that lead to the director taking his name off the film.

Great Cast, why have I not heard about this movie:

Triple 9: Smile pretty good, but they didn't know how to end it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzUtr5sjRvU&t=1s

Ok, now we're slumming, cause you just told me you fell asleep on this:

The Mechanic - Resurrection Neutral

Straight Outta Compton

Finally got around to seeing this one last weekend. Really good film. There's a lot more to the NWA backstory than I ever imagined.

Rogue One Cool Good, but not great if you really think about the plot.
Hardcore Henry Shocked
Moonlight: Idea went in only knowing about 1 cast member and not even a skeleton of the plot. Maybe not the best approach given some sensitive subject manner handled in artful, but not necessarily delicate ways.

Underworld: I forget the subtitle - Smile It was a good one of these types of movies that Underworld and Resident Evil tend to make. Not Oscar caliber stuff, but entertaining enough.

Logan - Very Happy Very well crafted movie. It's a movie first, based on a comic character second, and for that reason it succeeds in being the best comic book movie I've seen since The Dark Knight.
