Logan - Very Happy Very well crafted movie. It's a movie first, based on a comic character second, and for that reason it succeeds in being the best comic book movie I've seen since The Dark Knight.

I haven't seen any of the X Men movies. Would I still be able to enjoy Logan?

The Shallows
976-EVIL
Red State
Bonfire of the Vanities
Get Out
The Fly
MST3K: Space Travelers

How was Get Out? I'm hearing lots of good things, but no one I normally go see movies is clamoring to see it any time soon.

Logan borrows from some of the mythology that appears in previous movies, but the plot doesn't rely on it directly. It references things as tertiary elements of the plot. It stands on it's own if you have a passing knowledge of the X-Men, even if that is only from the cartoon. It's a stand alone film.

I enjoyed Get Out. I liked it and Split about the same.

The only thing I know about X-Men is the basic looks and names of some of the characters.

I would say, as a primer, you should at least watch the first 2 X-Men movies to get caught up on the premises that Logan builds off of.

I have yet to see Split, and am a little disappointed that non-spoiler reviewers and journalists spoiled an aspect of the film when discussing what M. Night might be doing next. That also made me want to see Split before it is completely ruined for me.

I kind of love/hate that I am compelled to see movies just so they don't get spoiled and I can watch or read content with no fear of having an experience ruined.

I am purposefully looking away from all Kong ads. I am not expecting an amazing movie, but it should be a fun popcorn flick and they usually put some of the best stuff in the trailers.

I saw the first couple of trailers and all I can say is that you have a good approach with your expectations. Laughing

Fist Fight. Craptastic, barely a chuckle here and there. I didn't want to see it, I knew it would suck. Going to a theater and paying full price to see something like this on the big screen seemed ridiculous to me. We coulda seen explosions and shtuff but nooo. The cast was fine. The funniest part was during the end credits when I read JoAnna Garcia Swisher and realized it wasn't Amy Adams. I was wondering why she was in this movie lol.

^ My being able to read those last two sentences and laughing is priceless, so you got your money's worth.

Get Out Shocked Well done with tonal surprises.

Split Surprised Well done and relentless in tone.

Joanna Garcia was my crush back in the day when she was on Are You Afraid of the Dark? I guess she was also the main reason I watched the Reba show.

I ended up seeing Kong Skull Island in IMAX 3D and enjoyed it.
It was a lot of fun.
Dead Again
The Hidden
Life 2017
King Kong 1933
The Late Show
Allied
Manhunter

Anya Taylor Joy starred opposite James McAvoy in Split and as I am want to do, when a performance of someone unknown to me is particularly impressive, I start looking for their past works to see if I have been in the dark about this talent. In ATJ's case the answer is yes.

So far I've watched a couple of other films she was in:

Morgan - Very Happy I would love to have a spoiler discussion of this one. Well shot, well acted. Pretty on point when you realize where it fits in terms of theme and premise. There are some aspects to the story that connect to other contemporary/ ongoing fictional lore, be it accidental or not.

VVitch ( the Witch 2015 ) Very Happy Her first film according to interviews. I can see why she has been cast as a star from the start. There are moments where you can feel the "acting" but even that "acting" is with purpose. The young children in this film are phenomenal, which is a credit to the director, who had to conceal just what their characters were actually doing from them. As far as ATJ being consistent on period accents are hard, harder still when the majority of the cast are using variations on native spoken accents they have that the lead actor does not.

Room - Very Happy Brie Larson was very good in this movie, but her main costar is the one who clutches your heart stings. Having Joan Allen to play off of is a gift to ones craft.

The moral of the story here is that the Star Wars Prequels done as dramatic suspense and period horror films could have been masterpieces.

Wonder Woman was very entertaining and managed to hit all the right notes Love

The Visit - Very Happy I see why people call this M. Night's comeback. Well made, very much establishing a Blume House Vibe.

Now You See Me 2 - Smile I can at least say I appreciated this more than the original, but it definitely didn't feel like anything I'd watch in the theater.
