I'm under the impression that the percentage of Laughing City regulars using Macs is greater than you would find among computers users in general. I'm curious to see if that's true. This is NOT a thread to debate whether Macs or PC's are better (I'm looking at you, Kirk Very Happy ).

I am a PC user but I used a Mac for a year recently.

I actually dual boot Vista and Linux although I spend way more time in Windows.

What are the worldwide comparisons of userbases these days? I know macs must be catching up quite a bit.

Interesting results so far. I built my PC myself, and I'm very proud of it. I've had it for 3 years and it's still a nice PC. It could use a few upgrades, but it's still decent. Good thing I'm not a hardcore gamer anymore. If I get back into that I'll definitely need a new video card and more RAM to run some of the games they got now.

Same here. Mine's almost 4 besides the motherboard but that's probably 3 years old now.

The Mac market share hit 8% at the end of 2007. That means 8% of computers being sold were Macs and says nothing about the Mac vs PC install base. I can't find any good numbers comparing install bases. Apple's retail notebook market share is over 17% but that doesn't include Dell so it's meaningless.

Apple is 8% overall, nearing 20% in higher education.
I wouldn't be surprised to see them inching in on 10% after the third quarter (July-September) with all the BTS sales.

Just out of curiosity, why do you use Windows when you have linux? My laptop is dual boot, but I rarely ever boot to Windows.

Use PC, want a Mac. They're just expensive.

I've used PCs all my life up until Friday when I got a Mac. I'm using both at the moment though. The Mac takes some getting used to.

I've been using PC all my life too, and the only Macs I remember seeing are in my school library. This might seem crazy to you, but here in Bulgaria Macs aren't very popular (or available on the market)
The 3 PCs at home are all built by my dad, one of them we use as a server (it's really old one). We also have laptop which has both Windows and Linux. My dad loves Linux but I can't get used to it (not that I've really tried, I just don't like it for some reason).
