For those of you in school, which do you prefer? I can't decide which kind to get. Free free to post your specific bag.

I always went back and fourth. Backpacks are good if you have lots of books/weight to carry. If you have very little weight then use a messenger bag. My brother has/had back problems from carrying books with his backpack though. I suppose it's different for everyone.

Messenger bags are cooler looking. But my school is really spread out and I don't have time to use my locker, so I carry everything around. Easier on my back with a backpack. I used to have like, a sling backpack, but where the sling part rubbed against the bottom of my shirt it would leave like, annoying fuzzy, worn out patches on my clothes.

I hate it when that happens!

I prefer backpacks, messenger bags tend to hurt my shoulder. Um, so I'd say go for what one is most comfortable for you, and not what is 'cooler looking'. Or maybe alternate, i don't know...

i prefer messenger bags, and have been using one for 10 years or so, but backpacks are way more practical if you have a lot to carry (luckily i was always able to stop at a locker/dorm/car and switch stuff)

I've been using backpacks until now. I just got a sweet messenger bag. I love it. Hopefully it will make me carry less weight around.

I always have a lot of books to carry, so I got this really cute retro looking backpack by Jansport online. I tried using a messenger bag once, but my books didn't all fit and it kiled my shoulders.

I've used both, and while messenger bags are a lot better looking, I always have to carry a lot of stuff around and it gives me major pains in my shoulders.
so I say go with a backpack.

I love backpacks. They use both your shoulders, so your shoulders wear evenly as opposed to just one with a messenger bag. This was pretty useful when I was hauling a week's load a groceries back and forth from the store on my bicycle.

Messenger bags make you look like a tool.
